Transcript
00:00he is supposed to be about
00:10and I'll give you another another example
00:15as part of his love of the oligarchy
00:19Donald Trump and his Republican friends gave us
00:23the so-called big beautiful bill
00:31in my view that bill is the most dangerous piece of legislation passed
00:37in the modern history of the United States
00:40it is a vulgar piece of legislation
00:44and anyone who voted for that bill
00:47should not be returned to office
00:53at a time of massive income and wealth inequality
01:06that bill gave a trillion dollars in tax breaks
01:11to the one percent
01:13nine hundred billion in tax breaks
01:16for large profitable corporations
01:21now that is vulgar
01:24but what is even more vulgar
01:26is that in order to pay for those huge tax breaks
01:30they cut Medicaid by a trillion dollars
01:33and cut the Affordable Care Act
01:36that some 15 million Americans are going to lose the health care that they have
01:43including hundreds of thousands right here in Michigan
01:51so you got one reality
01:55people on top enormously powerful
01:59doing extraordinarily well
02:01controlling the political system
02:03getting huge tax breaks
02:06and then there is another reality
02:09and that reality is that in the wealthiest nation in the history of the world
02:14today
02:16sixty percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck
02:22I grew up in a family that lived paycheck to paycheck
02:29many of you are in families living paycheck to paycheck
02:35and what living paycheck to paycheck is about
02:39is everyday undergoing the stress
02:43of wondering how you are going to feed your kids
02:46pay the rent
02:47go to the doctor if somebody gets sick
02:50and wondering maybe
02:52maybe
02:53when you get old
02:55will you be able to have a few bucks in the bank
02:57so you can enjoy some kind of security in your old age
03:02in your old age
03:04and every single day
03:06tens of millions of families
03:08are struggling with that stress
03:11and with that reality
03:13and you know what that stress does to people?
03:18it kills them
03:21now what you don't hear much about
03:24is that in America today
03:26despite the fact that we are the wealthiest country on earth
03:29our life expectancy
03:31how long we live
03:33is four years on average shorter
03:36than in other wealthy countries around the world
03:39that is a shame
03:41but I'll tell you what is even more shameful
03:44and you don't know this because you never hear about it
03:46if you are working class in this country
03:50you will live seven years shorter lives
03:55than the wealthy
03:57in other words
04:00the stress that the working class
04:02and lower income Americans are dealing with now
04:05it's not just that they don't have a fancy house
04:08or a fancy car
04:10or they go out to big restaurants
04:12who cares?
04:13what is going on
04:14is that stress
04:15is actually killing people
04:18all across this country
04:20who are struggling to survive
04:22and in the richest country on earth
04:24that should not be happening
04:26so our job
04:41it seems to me
04:43is to do what the American people want us to do
04:47and that is to take on Trump
04:50every step of the way
04:52but we have got to do more than that
05:04what we need to have
05:06which we don't have
05:07certainly Republicans don't have it
05:09as they move lockstep into authoritarianism
05:13and the Democrats don't have it
05:16because they are also controlled by big money
05:19what we need is a vision for America
05:22that works for working people
05:24not just the 1%
05:26the 2%.
