Brentford 1 Aston Villa 0 - Matt Maher reaction
Transcript
00:01Good evening from a particularly noisy Brentford, some fencing I think being moved behind.
00:09Brentford 1, Villa 0, not a great day for Villa, not a great start to the season, difficult
00:14to remember in the Unai Emery era when they've delivered two really flat performances back
00:19to back but that's what we've got with last week's 0-0 draw with Newcastle and today's
00:271-0 defeat at Brentford. Villa came here to face a Brentford team who were beaten 3-1,
00:32come to be at Nottingham Forest last week, a lot of people tipping Keith Andrews to be
00:36the first manager sack this season but Villa really just didn't do anywhere near enough
00:41today, they went behind early on, really bad goal to concede, a mistake by Pau Torres who
00:46came in for Beres-Rinconza, Dango Utara scoring at the past in the Martinez in the second attempt
00:53and then it was basically a game of attack via defence, Villa doing all the attacking, Brentford
00:58doing the defending and Villa never looking like they were going to score, they had more
01:02than 75% possession, just two shots on target. Now there's been a lot of negativity around
01:08Villa over the course of the summer with the PSR issues and everybody knows why they haven't
01:14been able to strengthen as they would like in the transfer market. It does feel that has
01:18now permeated into the start of the season with these two defeats, the fans were looking
01:25for something to lift them, looking forward to the football being back, looking forward
01:28to talking about the football but actually so far the football's been really bad, Villa
01:33just insipid in attack, they look like a team that needs a bit of freshening up, obviously
01:37we know that Una Emery's keen to bring Nicholas Jackson in from Chelsea, he'll add a bit of pace
01:41if they can get that deal, but that's what they're looking for really, it was just too easy
01:45today for Brentford, the same as it was too easy for Newcastle last week, Villa
01:50lacking for us, they look unbalanced, they look flat and he hasn't been able to say that
01:56too many times about them in the Una Emery era, so it's Una Emery era, so two consecutive
02:03really poor performances are concerning, obviously we're still only two games in, there's a long
02:08way to go, but it's not been a great start, I wouldn't say that.
