00:00This is how many Europeans refuse to recycle their old electronic devices.
00:10Millions of Europeans struggle to recycle their old phones,
00:14even when they are no longer in use.
00:17Recent Eurostat research shows that the majority keep their old device at home
00:23instead of tossing it.
00:25Only 11% recycle them, while 18% give them to someone else or sell them.
00:32Around 2% throw them away without recycling them.
00:36The share of phones that end up in general waste is particularly high in the Balkans,
00:4214% in Albania, around 11% in North Macedonia and almost 9% in Montenegro.
00:51By contrast, the lowest rates were reported in Croatia, Denmark and Norway.
00:58When it comes to old laptops and tablets, 34% of people keep them at home.
01:04However, around 1.5% of people simply toss them into general waste or elsewhere.
01:12Once again, Montenegro shows a particularly concerning rate, 9%,
01:18far above any other surveyed European nation.
01:21Perhaps due to their size, all desktop computers have a relatively high recycling rate, 15%.
