00:00Honestly, I can't believe that this happened tonight, this is, this is...
00:03I can believe it, I just watched how you were f***ing driving.
00:06Early on January 7th, 2025, officers made their way to the scene of a car accident,
00:12one that would soon reveal itself to be far more serious than anyone expected.
00:17Hey guys, I'll give you a hand. Is everyone okay?
00:21Just trying to help them out.
00:22Yeah, I'm gonna help them out too.
00:26Do you want to grab the other hand?
00:27Yep, yep, yep, yep.
00:28Just so no one gets hurt.
00:30Yep.
00:30Alright.
00:31You alright?
00:31Yep.
00:33Okay.
00:34Are you okay?
00:35Yes.
00:35You guys want an ambulance?
00:36No.
00:37Check you out just in case?
00:38No, we're all...
00:39What's going on?
00:40We were just going on a little tour ride.
00:43I wasn't sad and I heard you.
00:45I just heard.
00:46Is everybody out of the car?
00:47Yeah.
00:48Okay.
00:48It was only the two of us.
00:50I lost my glasses.
00:51Oh, okay.
00:52You guys need an ambulance or anything?
00:53No, everybody's okay.
00:54Here's what we're gonna do.
00:55We're gonna get you checked out, okay?
00:56If you guys don't want to go to the hospital, you guys can refuse, okay?
01:00331.
01:00Can you roll an ambulance this way?
01:03So we're gonna have an ambulance.
01:04Come just check you out.
01:05You could always refuse.
01:06How old are you?
01:08I'm going to give me...
01:09Oh, you're light?
01:12Yeah.
01:13Good.
01:17Just a little abrasion on my forehead.
01:20Yeah.
01:20I'm a medical student, so...
01:21Oh, cool.
01:22Special, 393.
01:24Another vehicle here.
01:2648, 21.
01:28How old are you, man?
01:29I'm...
01:30I'm turning 20.
01:32Oh, you look young.
01:33No, no, I completely understand.
01:35We just took a little joy in.
01:37My dad has, uh...
01:39I'm fine.
01:40I heard it.
01:40I was just sad.
01:41You got to...
01:42I was just trying to make sure y'all was okay.
01:43I heard it.
01:44The first officers on the scene were initially unaware that a second vehicle was involved.
01:49It wasn't until additional units arrived and discovered the car that its presence became known,
01:54something the driver had failed to mention.
01:56Watch out, there's a kid in here.
02:04I got, I got, I got, I got.
02:05Watch his hand here, too.
02:07233, one for you.
02:08Oh.
02:09Are you all right?
02:18What hurts?
02:24What hurts?
02:24Are you all right?
02:28Where does it hurt?
02:31I bet you step it up.
02:34Are you all right?
02:34You okay?
02:36Don't move, sir.
02:39Come on, sweetie.
02:41Hey, let's get her in the back of a squad car.
02:42Watch out, watch out.
02:43This guy, this guy, this guy can't hear his name.
02:45Yeah, he's not going on.
02:49Are you all right?
02:50Can you understand?
02:51Can you get me in the ambulance to 40, 21?
02:53It's not worth my way over here.
02:58It's okay, sweetie.
02:59Don't move, okay?
03:02Try not to move, okay, sweetheart?
03:04Yeah.
03:04We got the ambulance on the way, all right?
03:05We got your little girl in the back seat.
03:07We're going to have her checked out, too, all right?
03:09A man and his young daughter were in the vehicle.
03:13The girl sprawled across the back without a car seat, and the man was trapped, leaving officers
03:18with little they could do until the fire department arrived.
03:21Are you sure you're okay?
03:24Yeah.
03:24Yeah.
03:25I don't, you know, I don't feel like I have a concussion or I'm not, you know, disorientated
03:30or anything.
03:31It was a genuine mistake.
03:33I can't believe that this happened.
03:35You lost control or?
03:36You know, like, her and I just went out on a little droid ride, and when I was stepping
03:42on the brakes, it was a little bit too late, and it was a mistake.
03:48I'm so sorry.
03:49I can't believe that this happened.
03:50This is genuinely unbelievable.
03:53What was your name and badge number?
03:55Officer Harrison, 417.
03:57Uh, I could write it down for you in a second.
04:00No, no, it's okay.
04:00I could.
04:01What was the badge number?
04:02417.
04:03For her, maybe, we could get her.
04:06I don't want to move her anymore than we can't do.
04:08Because I don't know.
04:09Hey, if she can move, she's all right.
04:12Let's pull her out.
04:13See if we can pull her out, okay?
04:14Make sure there's nothing wrong with her.
04:16Make sure we can, uh, done.
04:18Is the other car over there?
04:19Yeah, they'll keep her up.
04:20Yes, the one's in a building over there, inside of the, uh, where the old cell phone place
04:24was.
04:25We got.
04:26Come on, sweetheart.
04:27Here, here.
04:28Where is she?
04:30Check her out.
04:31Make sure she doesn't have any.
04:32You didn't know that this guy's shaggy.
04:33No.
04:34We're gonna, we're gonna help you.
04:36We're here to help you, okay?
04:39You guys have insurance in the vehicle, obviously?
04:41Yeah, I do.
04:41Yeah, we'll, we'll grab that when they pull it out.
04:43My dad is a, a government agent, so.
04:46Oh, cool.
04:46For where?
04:47Uh, he works for the OCC, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
04:51That's cool.
04:52And he, you know, this is.
04:53So he's gonna be pissed?
04:55You know what you're saying?
04:55Well, what I wanted to explain to you earlier is, um, he recently got re-diagnosed with stage
05:03four, uh, stage four liver cancer.
05:05Sorry to hear that, dude.
05:06The only reason her and I went out was just because of, yeah, and it was just, you know,
05:12recently there was a lot of stress, and he only has a couple cycles left, and so I just
05:18wanted to get away from it all, and her and I went out, and unfortunately this, you know,
05:24God willing, knock on wood, right?
05:26Yeah.
05:26I was inside, I just heard it, but when I came out, I saw them driving, I helped both
05:42of them out.
05:43The way they was talking to me, I knew what time it was.
05:45His legs are trapped in the front pocket.
05:49Hey, okay.
05:50Hey, hey, guys, put the, is that the little girl?
05:53Yeah.
05:54Let's put her in the ambulance.
05:54The fire department arrived and worked to free the man by cutting through the doors,
05:59while an ambulance rushed his daughter to the hospital.
06:04A witness captured the incident on her dash cam, which showed the vehicle traveling at
06:08a dangerously high speed.
06:10According to the arrest report, the car was going 93 miles per hour just five seconds before
06:15impact, slowing only slightly to 87 miles per hour at the moment of collision.
06:20While we weren't able to obtain the dash cam footage, surveillance video from a nearby
06:25gas station shows the vehicle running a red light just before striking the other car.
06:30No one else was in any of the vehicles that I collaborated with?
06:37No one else?
06:38Over there, there was one.
06:40Right.
06:40Are they okay?
06:41Um, they're checking on them right now.
06:43Okay.
06:44But they're, they're-
06:45We don't know.
06:46I haven't been over there, to be totally honest with you.
06:47But they're still coherent and whatnot, right?
06:50Um, yeah, they're okay over there? No, are they okay over there?
06:55All right, so you were driving eastbound, so you were driving a little fast.
07:01I mean, you know, not more than 10, 15 miles over the second line.
07:05No, I got you.
07:07It was an honest mistake. Honestly, I can't believe that this happened tonight.
07:12I can believe it. I just watched how you were fucking driving.
07:15I'm so sorry, officer. What was your name?
07:17What?
07:25Hey, did you see the video?
07:26Yeah.
07:27He's flying. She's got a dash camera.
07:30He's flying faster, flew through the red light, and fuck this guy.
07:33He said he was going 10 over.
07:34It's red, wait, please get some.
07:36That doesn't happen.
07:37Cool.
07:38Give these guys a story.
07:39What happened exactly?
07:40Yeah, officer Harrison, 417, took my story.
07:43I was coming through here, going southbound on Cicero, and I must have been going like 55, 60 at most, and by the time I was hitting this light, it was yellow.
07:56I tried to, you know, pump my brakes, especially since it was snowing and whatnot.
08:01It wasn't snowing.
08:03I didn't make the light, unfortunately.
08:06Okay.
08:06And there was, you know...
08:07See, all of this already changed when you were coming through?
08:09Yeah, exactly.
08:10Someone was already coming through, and I ended up colliding with them, and then swirling over here, and then...
08:16That's all 321.
08:17Did you get the cover over there?
08:18Okay.
08:18Yeah, the Lincoln...
08:19You were heading this way on?
08:21Southbound on...
08:22Okay.
08:22Where was this car coming from?
08:25The, uh, the cab?
08:27Yeah, was it?
08:29Officer Harrison said it was parked.
08:31Okay.
08:32You were driving, correct?
08:33I was.
08:34Okay.
08:34She was your passenger?
08:35Yes.
08:35Okay.
08:36You guys injured in any way, anything like that?
08:38No, not that I'm aware of.
08:39I'm still coherent.
08:40Okay.
08:41Okay.
08:42In case of mail, okay?
08:43It became clear that the driver may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
08:47You can't come over here.
08:49So just be straight with me, man.
08:50How much have you had to drink tonight?
08:53Honestly, a couple hours ago I had, you know, two or three drinks, but that was, you know, two or three hours ago at this point.
09:00Okay.
09:01What did you drink?
09:02Four hours ago is only two espresso martinis.
09:06Okay.
09:06Two espresso martinis?
09:07Four hours ago.
09:08Did you have anything else?
09:09Like any type of drugs?
09:10No.
09:10Like any weed?
09:11No, no, no.
09:11Anything like that?
09:12Do you take any medication for anything?
09:13Anything like that?
09:14No, no, no.
09:14Okay.
09:15I don't take any medication.
09:16Did you take any medication tonight?
09:17No.
09:18Okay.
09:18Where were you drinking at?
09:19At your house?
09:20Yeah.
09:20Okay.
09:21How many did you have total tonight?
09:23I know you said a couple, like two to three.
09:24No, no.
09:25That's exactly what she explained.
09:27Only two or three.
09:28We just, like, after that, my dad and I, you know, just with everything that he is going on.
09:34Yes.
09:34I understand that.
09:36It was just, it was an honest mistake and it's so, I'm sorry.
09:39This is where we're at, okay?
09:40We ought to make sure that you're okay to drive.
09:42Yeah.
09:42So, if anything, we can, you know, like, I can always go on Google for us.
09:46Okay, I'll do it.
09:47You can observe, okay?
09:48Because, all right.
09:50So, here's what I'm going to do, all right?
09:52Do you wear contacts or glasses, anything like that?
09:54I do wear contacts, I do wear glasses, I have negative two and a half.
09:58Negative, wait, five, one, four, nine.
10:00I can't even, right now you're going to.
10:02I'm what?
10:04Right, no, like, without my glasses.
10:06Do you have any glasses in the car or anything like that?
10:09Probably in the car, yes.
10:10Can you see, like, where my finger, like, moves, too, without moving your head or anything like that?
10:14Of course.
10:14Okay, but you can see it.
10:15You can see the tip of my finger.
10:17Okay, so what I want you to do is stand with your hands down at your side, your feet together, okay?
10:21I want you to follow the tip of my finger, the tip of my finger only.
10:25You can see that, correct?
10:26Yeah.
10:27Okay, so I just want you to follow it.
10:29Of course.
10:29Just don't move your head.
10:30Of course.
10:31Just keep your head straight with your eyes like this, okay?
10:39I literally was just getting some gas.
10:41I was leaving this girl crib over here.
10:43I know my man on the gas station.
10:44I'll get some gas.
10:45I came out to get my phone because I was going to load my Bitcoin and they sent a code to your phone.
10:50and I was, I heard, like, mm, and I'm like, who's speeding in Oakland?
10:54And that motherfucker went.
10:56He fucked up, bro.
10:57I feel bad.
10:58He fucked up.
10:59He fucked up.
11:01I could tell by the way I was trying to help him out.
11:02He was looking like this.
11:03I'm like, bro, get out.
11:05Like, I don't know if the car going to blow up.
11:06Just as a human, I'm trying to help him out.
11:08No, you were doing the right thing.
11:09That's why I saw you.
11:10Yeah.
11:10And I'm like, hey, like, I didn't know if you were in the taxi at first.
11:13No, I just wanted to help him as a human, bro, but he was lit, bro.
11:17But all these cars are, that's fucked up, that's fucked up.
11:20I don't know who cars these are, but that's fucked up.
11:22Hang on to those for a minute.
11:23The next set of tests we're going to do, I want you to stand with your left foot in front of your right.
11:28You don't have any issues with your knees, legs, anything like that.
11:31I mean, I've broken a couple swinging and football.
11:34Right.
11:35It doesn't prevent you from walking or anything like that, does it?
11:37Besides a little pain, but...
11:39A little pain, but that's okay?
11:40Okay.
11:40So take your left foot, put it in front of your right, and stand like that with your arms down at your sides, okay?
11:45You're going to do a small series of shuffles, and you're going to go back nine steps, touching heel to toe.
11:50Do you know if I put my hands on my pecs?
11:52Um...
11:53Is that okay right here?
11:54Just keep them right down at your side, okay, man?
11:56One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
12:06Shuffle.
12:08One.
12:08Okay.
12:19All right, so here's what we're going to do.
12:21Whatever leg you're comfortable with, you can pick whichever leg up off the ground as you choose, okay?
12:27Now, keep your hands on your side, keep your legs together as of right now, okay?
12:31What this is called, it's a one-leg stand, okay?
12:34When I tell you to start, you may do so.
12:35Do you mind if I take a couple deep breaths, just...
12:39Yeah, you can take a couple deep breaths, that's fine.
12:40Okay.
12:41Let me know when you're ready.
12:42All right, you may begin.
12:43One.
12:44One in a thousand.
12:45One in a thousand.
12:47Two in a thousand.
12:48One in a thousand.
12:49Two in a thousand.
12:50Eight in a thousand.
12:51Four in a thousand.
12:52Five in a thousand.
12:53Six in a thousand.
12:54One in a thousand.
12:55Two in a thousand.
12:56Three in a thousand.
12:57Four in a thousand.
12:58Five in a thousand.
12:59Six in a thousand.
13:00Six in a thousand.
13:01Okay.
13:02Well, you can stop it now.
13:04Well, is it...is it six on either side?
13:06Yeah, just whenever I tell you to stop.
13:07Okay.
13:08So, here's what I can do, is I can give you the opportunity to take a portable breathalyzer test.
13:15What that pretty much shows is your ability, if you're able to drive or not.
13:18Are you willing to submit to one of those?
13:20Whether it's me, I mean, at this point I'm not driving home, so it's going to be me taking an Uber, so.
13:25Okay, so are you able to take one of those, or?
13:29I'm not sure if I want to without my water present.
13:31Okay, well, as of right now, you're not under arresting that,
13:36but just based off of the signs of impairment,
13:41I'm going to ask you to turn around and put your hands behind your back,
13:43because now you're under arrest for DUI, okay?
13:47What is going to be our next steps tonight?
13:50We'll explain that when we get back to the police station, okay?
13:52What about her?
13:53Yeah, so here's where we're at, okay?
13:56Let me talk to my partner. I don't know what he gathered from you.
13:58I don't know if anybody's talked to you about what exactly happened.
14:01If you don't mind hanging out here for a couple minutes, I'll come back and talk to you, and we'll go from there, okay?
14:06If possible, could you name, give your name and badge number to my girlfriend?
14:10It'll be in the report.
14:11Thank you.
14:15Will my, um, my girlfriend be able to be transported home?
14:19We'll figure that out later, right, man?
14:21Okay.
14:25Officer?
14:27By any chance, will my girlfriend be able to be transported back to my house anytime soon?
14:34We'll figure that out over there, man.
14:35What was your name?
14:37Badge number's 414.
14:39414? And your name?
14:41We go by badge number, sir.
14:43414?
14:44Yep.
14:45By any chance, will that be included in the report as well as, could you give that to my girlfriend?
14:50The arresting officer will provide that information.
14:53All of it? All of the arresting officers?
14:55Mm-hmm.
14:56Okay, thank you. I appreciate that, officer.
14:58More than 30 minutes after the man was first found trapped in the vehicle, the fire department and officers were finally able to extract him.
15:06They had to cut off both doors on the driver's side and remove part of the dashboard to free his legs.
15:10Officer, by any chance, would I be able to give my dad or my lawyer a call by chance?
15:22Not right now.
15:23Okay.
15:24We'll get you back to the station, okay? We gotta have the FD check you out first.
15:27Thank you.
15:27What's up, man?
15:34By any chance, what's the update with my girlfriend?
15:37I don't know. I've been standing here the whole time.
15:39Is she gonna be able to go back to my house?
15:41Most likely.
15:42Okay.
15:43Or her house. They'll figure it out. I'll let you know. They'll figure it out, man.
15:46Okay, thank you.
15:46If I have more information, I'll tell you.
15:48Thank you.
15:50Girl.
15:52I'm gonna go just step out.
15:53Sit in the car. Sit in the car.
15:55Sit in the car.
15:56Oh.
15:57How old are you?
15:5919 turning 20.
16:0019 turning 20.
16:03What's hurting you?
16:05Right now, I feel, well, I can smell a little bit of blood, and I feel like my elbow is bleeding a little bit.
16:11Otherwise, I feel like I'm okay.
16:13So you want to go to the hospital?
16:15I wouldn't say I want to go to the hospital. I just want to call my lawyer.
16:18I want to call my lawyer, and I want to call my ambulance.
16:22You said you needed an ambulance, right?
16:25I never said that.
16:26I do feel like my elbow is hurting a little bit if someone could take off my jacket and take a look at that.
16:32Otherwise, I do feel like I'm okay.
16:34I don't feel like...
16:34Are you wearing your seatbelt and everything?
16:35Yes, I was.
16:36Are you drugs or alcohol?
16:37No, none.
16:38Okay.
16:38I haven't had a drink in three or four hours.
16:43Just because of the eyes.
16:44I don't hear any of that.
16:45Thank you.
16:49Go ahead.
16:49Face that door.
16:51When will I be able to call my lawyer?
16:55I'll be back to the station.
16:57Okay.
16:57So, you just got to sit tight.
17:01No worries.
17:03If by any chance, you guys could give me a heads up where my girlfriend was going.
17:07So, I would appreciate it.
17:09Thank you.
17:11By any chance, you have any idea where my girlfriend descended?
17:14I do not.
17:14Will your name and badge number be included in the report?
17:18Yeah?
17:18Yeah.
17:19Sadly, the man involved in the crash succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital three hours after the collision.
17:26His daughter, who was seven years old, survived, but was left in critical condition with a fractured spine and a bruised lung.
17:33The man responsible was charged with felony reckless homicide, aggravated DUI, and DUI-causing death.
17:40At a detention hearing on January 9, 2025, prosecutors sought to keep him in custody, citing the severity of the crash and ongoing public safety concerns.
17:51However, a judge ordered his release under strict conditions, including a nightly curfew, random drug and alcohol testing, and the installation of a breath alcohol ignition interlock device.
18:02A follow-up court hearing was scheduled for January 16 to determine whether he would be allowed to drive while awaiting trial.
18:09While the outcome of that hearing has not yet been made public, given the seriousness of the charges and circumstances,
18:16it is reasonable to believe that he is not permitted to drive while awaiting trial.
18:21We will continue to provide updates on the case as they become available through community posts.
18:39Thank you.
