00:00Brisbane's Story Bridge has become the centre of a courtroom clash after Queensland's Chief
00:05Magistrate ruled a planned pro-Palestine protest march posed a serious public safety risk.
00:12Police argued they could not guarantee adequate staffing with traffic expected to surge from
00:17the nearby AFL match and emergency services potentially blocked.
00:21The ruling magistrate said she respected the cause but declared the protest unauthorised.
00:26Well it will be a not authorised protest march. If such an activity occurs then obviously
00:33we will respond accordingly and as highlighted we are already well into the planning phase
00:39around what a not authorised protest march may look like in the operational environment.
00:46As to numbers, we have no idea at this point. The protest organisers highlighted they were
00:51expecting 7,000. We are unsure at this stage about the exact numbers but we will manage
00:57that on the day.
01:00Organisers rejected the ruling saying they would still gather at Raymond Park on Sunday afternoon
01:05accusing authorities of a political decision that undermined the right to protest.
