00:00As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, several opposition candidates have announced their intention to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
00:11While granting interviews to newsmen to secure their place on the ballot, these candidates have pledged to serve only a single term if elected.
00:20This promise has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria's political landscape and among citizens.
00:26To gauge public sentiment, we took to the streets of Lagos to ask, can Nigeria's challenges be addressed in just one term?
00:35Here is what the people had to say.
00:43I don't think so. Because a single term isn't enough to change the whole country, especially the mess we're in currently. So it's not possible.
00:52So, no. I think there's a lot of work to do to actually get Nigeria in the parts that we want to be.
01:01Looking at other countries, comparing ourselves to other countries, it wasn't just one term.
01:08It's not possible?
01:09I'm not saying it's not possible, but I'm saying it's going to take time.
01:12It's going to take time?
01:13So, one term, it might not be enough?
01:15It might not, yeah. It's possible, but one term, it's hard to picture.
01:21They have to put in a lot of work to get it done.
01:24Well, that's, that is, I don't really think that's, like, possible in four years.
01:30Like, Nigeria is way to, we've been behind for a very, like, I can't even describe how long we've been behind.
01:37But I think for Nigeria to get better, it will take, very, it will take way more than four years.
01:42Yes.
01:43Thank you, sir.
01:43As we have heard from the Straits of Lagos, the consensus is clear.
01:48Most Nigerians believe a single term isn't enough to tackle the nation's deep-rooted challenges.
01:55They emphasize that meaningful progress hinges on sustained good governance across successive administrations.
02:02As the 2027 elections approach, the question remains, can any candidate deliver lasting change?
