00:00I was the one that came up with the idea of calling it Lady Gaga because, I mean, she's pretty iconic.
00:06Shout out to Lady Gaga.
00:07Hi, I'm Peso Pluma, and I'm going to be looking at some career highlights and telling you what really went down.
00:13This is For The Record.
00:18So I'm looking at Ella Baila Sola, which was one of my favorite songs to ever do in my career.
00:23Obviously, one of my most important ones.
00:26And it's just a good memory with my friends of Eslabón Armado.
00:30I remember I was in New York, and I got a call that the song got to the number one.
00:35I felt amazing. I felt very proud.
00:38I felt happy for the genre to be the first corrido singer ever to put a corrido in a number one spot.
00:45I guess it changed everything.
00:47I just went global, and all the world knew my name, and it got me motivated to keep on going.
00:53I'm never going to be tired of singing that song because that song let a lot of things for me in.
00:58And I'm really thankful to that song, and I'm never going to stop singing that song.
01:02Fans don't have to worry about it.
01:04This is me.
01:05When I was performing in the Governor's Bowl, the most obvious memory that I have of this day is that I broke my right foot, one of my toes.
01:14It was painful.
01:14Everybody kept on telling me to stop singing and to go to a hospital, but I couldn't.
01:20I had to finish the show.
01:22I didn't want to let my fans down, you know?
01:24And I was just hoping the people were as happy as I was in that moment and as happy to perform in one of my favorite cities, like New York.
01:33It was a good and a bad day at the same time.
01:35Something that I do every show, it's praying.
01:39I gather all my people, all my band musicians, the staff, the dancers, everyone, the engineers.
01:47It's just a quick little prayer, just whatever comes to my mind at that moment, and always thanking to God the life and the career that he gave us,
01:57and the opportunity to fulfill my dreams the way that I'm doing.
02:03This is me in the Grammys.
02:05I looked pretty good, fancy, elegant.
02:08I like the watch that I have on.
02:10It's a Jacob and Cole roulette.
02:12Even though I didn't win, it's always good to be nominated at those kind of awards.
02:18I usually pick whatever I'm going to wear that day.
02:21I have to have my stylist ready with everything.
02:24And this haircut, I just felt like I wanted to do a change to my hair after cutting the mullet that obviously was an iconic hairstyle.
02:34But then I changed it up, and people liked it even more.
02:38I dyed it, and I liked it, but after a few weeks, I didn't like it, so I went back to my original hair.
02:44Do you miss your mullet?
02:47Sometimes.
02:48Not right now.
02:49This is my original hairstyle, so the other one, I didn't like it.
02:54But I have to keep it for the boys and the girls, and for the kids in general, you know?
02:59Okay, so this is me performing Lady Gaga.
03:02It was a very special show to me.
03:04I remember it was a sold-out show.
03:07My family was there.
03:08To have my family there, it's a really good motivation.
03:12I was the one that came up with the idea of calling it Lady Gaga, because, I mean, she's pretty iconic.
03:19Shout-out to Lady Gaga.
03:21This is me from the New York Fashion Week with Tom Brown.
03:25He invited me to his runway show.
03:27It was a pretty amazing moment.
03:29It was my first runway show, so it was kind of a weird situation for me, but being a corrido singer and being there for these special moments, I'm just glad to receive those invitations to be there.
03:43Well, usually my stylist has, like, different types of what I like, and then I pick.
03:49Sometimes I mix.
03:51I usually like to dress casual.
03:53The first thing that I see and the first thing that I love, that's what I'm going to wear.
03:57Who is my style icon?
03:59Probably on my urban side, it's ASAP.
04:02On my casual side, Pharrell, Tyler, the creator, Lil Yachty.
04:09Leo has a very good style.
04:13This is me in the MTV Video Music Awards.
04:16Pretty good outfit.
04:17I was looking sharp.
04:19And why I sell suit.
04:21I always want to be different.
04:23Whatever everybody has, I don't want it.
04:26I like to be the black sheep.
04:28I like to be different than everybody else.
04:31I didn't like the mullet, though.
04:32It was a pretty good memory because it was my first time on the BMAs.
04:37First time, again, for a corrido singer to ever be there.
04:40That was the moment where I realized I was up there, you know.
04:44It was good to say hi to a lot of figures that I just admire and respect so much.
04:49And it was a pretty good moment.
04:52This is me performing in the Rolling Loud.
04:54For me and for the whole genre, for the whole Mexican culture, it was an honor to be there to present my music.
05:03Me, as a fan of the Rolling Loud for years, watching it, watching my favorite artists, who most of them are rappers, it was a special time.
05:12And I remember I was pretty nervous because it was my first performance ever since Exodo.
05:18I really enjoyed it.
05:20Just me representing my country, my community, my language, my genre, my music.
05:26Putting out there who we really are.
05:28And it's a very important thing for me because I know I'm part of this story of the corridos.
05:37And we were part of changing it on the music side, talking about the corridos.
05:44And I'm really glad to be one of them.
05:47Thank you so much for watching.
05:49And make sure you check out the September issue with Esquire.
