00:00The government is stepping up efforts to safeguard foreign communities in the country,
00:04launching dedicated help desks and tighter security measures to protect lives,
00:08strengthen partnerships, and build greater confidence in the Philippines
00:11as safe destination for tourism and investment.
00:15Our J.M. Pineda tells us more.
00:19Several incidents of killings and crimes involving Korean nationals in recent months
00:23have been recorded in Angeles City, Pampanga.
00:26Among this was a robbery in a Korean town that led to the death of a Korean national.
00:30This prompted the government to further strengthen security measures for Korean nationals.
00:34Today, a Korean help desk was launched at the Angli City Police Station.
00:38This will serve as a reporting center and protection mechanism for Koreans
00:42and to help prevent the commission of crimes against them.
00:45Sa pag-uusap na ginawa po namin with the ambassador,
00:49ang sabi nga nila na we will put more effort and specialize at this.
00:56Para sa mga kaibigan natin from Korea.
01:00Kasi marami na rin sila, almost 1 million yung mga turista from Korea nagpupunta rito
01:07and about 50,000, mahigit, na Koreans who are living here.
01:14Authorities emphasize that ensuring the safety of foreigners in the Philippines is vital
01:18as it also boosts the country's tourism.
01:20Aside from data, it helps improve the economy through the businesses being set up in the country.
01:25If we talk of yung sa businesses, wala namang magtatayo ng business kung nakikita nila magulo yung peace and order.
01:32So that's the main focus and the main objective of this desk,
01:36para magkaroon ng peace and order sa lugar,
01:38so we can encourage more businesses to come in dito sa lugar na ito.
01:43The Philippine National Police or PNP will also work hand in hand with Korean communities in the country,
01:48which will provide volunteers who can serve as translator during emergency cases.
01:52According to the PNP, personnels assigned to the Korean Help Desk underwent proper training.
01:57May mga trained personnel tayo, graduate ng Korean language,
02:01so sila yung ilalagay natin dun sa mga Korean day.
02:03And for those stations na kulang pa, we have a partnership with them that they will be providing translators.
02:12The Korean Help Desk has not only been established in Pampanga, but also in Manila and Cebu.
02:16Authorities also assure that they will focus on strengthening the protection of other foreigners residing in the Philippines.
