00:00A redistricting of parliamentary seats for the province of Sulu has put today's scheduled printing of ballots for the first-ever parliamentary polls of the BARM on hold.
00:11Not a huge linear problem for the poll body whose commissioner assured to make the needed adjustments as our Luisa Erispe hashes over the details.
00:19The Commission on Election, Sir Komalek, has temporarily suspended the printing of official ballots for the first parliamentary elections to be held at the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or BARM.
00:34The supposed printing should have started today.
00:37However, the bill redistributing the parliamentary districts in BARM was passed on its third and final reading.
00:44That's why Komalek has to study the implications and the effect of this bill, most especially if they have to change the face of the ballots.
00:52Mukhang mako-complicate lang sapagkat mukhang babaguhin namin yung ballot faces and at the same time mukhang magkakaroon kami ng pagbabago doon sa pagko-consolidate ng results.
01:03The proposed bill did not only reallocate the seven seats supposed to be for Sulu.
01:08It also transferred some municipalities to different districts.
01:12This is yet to be signed into law by the Bangsamoro Transition Authority, but the poll body believes it will be a bigger problem if they will wait and not act on the bill right away.
01:23Komalek assures they will commence the printing of the 2.3 million ballots as soon as possible.
01:53The filing of the COCs may not be reopened. Candidates will remain in their original districts, and the seven seats which created new districts will be appointed by the President himself.
02:04The only challenge Komalek is facing is the further study on the reconfiguration of the ballots to consolidate votes cast as this election should be purely automated by law.
02:15The poll body assures even with these possible changes, the election will be held on October 13.
02:37Meanwhile, the Philippine Army is helping the Komalek to maintain peace and order within the region.
02:42Army Chief Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarete visited the 6th Infantry Division and ordered his men to ensure the safety of electoral boards as well as the voters.
02:536ID will be working hand-in-hand with the 1st and 11th Infantry Division and will patrol throughout the region not only on October 13 but until the election period ends on October 28.
