00:00Now, Israel's defence minister has approved a plan to seize Gaza City and authorise the call-up of 60,000 reservists to carry out the plan.
00:10The move comes just two days after Hamas agreed to a new ceasefire proposal now under review by Israel.
00:17Qatar and Egypt say the plan is nearly identical to the one Israel did previously accept,
00:23but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to publicly respond.
00:28Meanwhile, Gaza officials say dozens were killed in Israeli strikes on Tuesday.
00:34For more on this, I'm joined from Tel Aviv by journalist Gideon Levy.
00:38Gideon, a pleasure to have you on the show. Thank you for joining us.
00:42First of all, what does this mean for the state of the conflict?
00:46Is this the next phase of Operation Gideon's chariots?
00:50Most probably, yes, unless the American president will stop it on time.
00:55Otherwise, we will face another phase of this war, which might be worse than all the others.
01:03And therefore, my expectation would be that someone would stop it.
01:07But until now, President Trump gave Israel a full green light to go on to conquer Gaza City
01:16and to push the population toward the south, which, in other words, is the beginning of a real ethnic cleansing.
01:24And Gideon, how dangerous is this military operation for the Israeli reservists?
01:32And are there concerns from families within Israel?
01:35There is obviously a concern.
01:37Even today, there was an incident, but not much of Hamas' military capability remained.
01:45So there are risks.
01:47It's a war.
01:48But I won't exaggerate about it.
01:51The Israeli army is much bigger and stronger.
01:53And there is very little left from Hamas.
01:57Families are concerned and worried.
02:00And above all, people ask, what for is all this?
02:03What is the end game?
02:04Where are we aiming it?
02:06What are the goals?
02:08And the answers are not very clear.
