00:00Okay, so first of all, we'll start with your introduction.
00:02Tell us who you are, what the school is, and what's the vibe been like?
00:08So I'm Dan Botting. I'm the Executive Principal here at the Portsmouth Academy
00:11and also Regional Director for Thinking Schools Academies Trust here in Portsmouth.
00:16And here at the Portsmouth Academy, we've had a really successful GCSE results day.
00:21It's been really positive to see our students opening their results envelopes.
00:26Just the culmination of so many years of hard work that they've put in,
00:29and it's really a testament to their dedication and perseverance.
00:33Excellent. And also, we've been witnessing a lot of the happiness and sadness as well,
00:39a lot of mixed reactions.
00:40But overall, it's been a good result?
00:44Yeah, overall, we're really pleased with the results for the students
00:46because what it does is it just gives them those opportunities to go on to the next stage.
00:51And it's always going to be an emotional day for them.
00:53And we've certainly seen those who've opened to some really positive surprises
00:58and just, you know, how on earth did I achieve as well as that?
01:01And it's caused a few to have to rethink a little bit about what those next steps might be,
01:05that actually, no, they really did have that talent for mathematics after all,
01:08even if they didn't quite believe it all the way along.
01:11And as a school itself, were there any challenges or anything that,
01:15things that you've done extra to help at least do this?
01:18Yeah. So this cohort of year 11 students, you know, we've got to remember,
01:23they started secondary school with lockdowns and, you know, really being influenced by the pandemic.
01:28So our team here worked incredibly hard, not just in terms of building that subject knowledge,
01:33but also that confidence and that kind of sense of, you know, togetherness as a cohort here at the school.
01:42And whether that's been through, yeah, absolutely, the study sessions, the hard work, all the revision,
01:47but also, you know, the exam breakfasts, getting them fired up in the mornings, ready to go into those exams.
01:53We've really, you know, kept supporting them all the way through the course of their studies.
01:58And today is really, you know, the proof of the impact that that can have.
02:02That's pretty cool.
