00:00Rami is an Israeli his family have lived in Jerusalem for seven generations this
00:08Palestinian terrorist to my left is my dearest brother Bassam Arameen in so many ways he's the
00:18closest person to me on earth as a child growing up in Hebron Bassam gradually became aware of the
00:24Israeli occupation I start to see the very strange soldiers they don't look like us we call them the
00:32Jewish soldiers they become crazy when they see the Palestinian flag you go to jail for six months
00:38to one year if they catch you with the flag so at the age of 13 with other four kids we create a
00:44local military group and we start our struggle by raising the Palestinian flag on the trees around
00:49other school at 17 he was with friends who found some grenades and threw them at Israeli soldiers he
00:56spent seven years in jail for terrorism and what makes us so close is the price that we both have
01:03paid is an outcome of this ongoing conflict between our two nations 34 years ago my daughter was born
01:09here in Jerusalem her name was Smadar the name is taken from the Song of Solomon the grape of
01:15vine the opening of the flower she was really outstanding everybody used to call her the princess and
01:22life was beautiful on the 4th of September 1997 this bubble of us was blown up to millions of pieces
01:32two Palestinian suicide bombers blew themselves up in Ben Yehuda Street ten minutes walking distance away from here
01:39they killed five people they killed five people that day including three little girls one of these
01:43girls was my 14 years old little girl Smadar it was Thursday afternoon and the beginning of a very long
01:53very cold night which continues until today on the 16th of January 2007 an Israeli border police shot and
02:06killed my 10 years old daughter Abir 15 minutes from here 9 30 in the morning she was with her sister and
02:14two other girls in the front of her school from a different distance of 15 to 20 meters in her head
02:20from the back she fell down and two days later she passed away in Hadassah Hospital in fact where she
02:28born and where Smadar born and died Thursday afternoon exactly like Smadar and the distance between
02:35Abir and Smadar it's ten years but it's the same killer the same criminal who kill our daughters you
02:44discover that there is no revenge which is very easy anyone can take revenge but you understand that
02:50to kill the rest of the Jews on earth and the Muslims you will never meet your daughter again it's over
02:55and the problem it's nothing to do with your pain it's 24 hours forever you need to know how to deal with
03:03this pain so in our case we cannot keep silence because we have no fear because the worst already
03:09happened and we need to protect our other kids as a dad of a 15 year old son I don't think I could be
03:17strong enough to do what don't I think about it you know I have so much respect that you can stay
03:24hopeful and still wish for peace it's beautiful that after all this you can still have hope it's not
03:31home it's faith it's fact it will happen we are not going to kill each other forever because it's not
03:40written anywhere I will tell you this I am a Jew and I am a Jew with the utmost respect to my people to my
03:49tradition to my religion to my history I leave it every day and I will tell you that ruling and
03:57oppressing and humiliating millions and millions of people without any democratic right for so many
04:05years is not Jewish period no two ways about it we even against it is not anti-semitism and I'm a son of
04:13Holocaust survivor my son my father spent one year in Auschwitz we are the 10th most strongest army in
04:22the world and we fight little kids in the streets and the right way is respect the other people who
04:29lives here because pushing them to the corner beating them humiliating them they will bite back
04:36like like anyone else no piece of land is worth a person's life I was really struggle with the
04:44security issue of giving up a Jewish state but at the same time I promise I'll make those two guys a
04:54promise that I will work a lot harder for peace as opposed to the opposing battle that I've kind of
05:03thought up to now because their story is there's immense it's very easy to be vocal about the
05:12conflict when you're living somewhere in the UK where you're safe you don't have to deal with the
05:16everyday whereas here they do they're representing both sides and if they can say the other side aren't
05:24awful I don't know how anyone in the UK can sit there and say oh that person is is this that person is
05:31that because these people have had their children killed by that side and they can't even say it and
05:36they can still have base level respect we make these that we have a hug I haven't been forced to think so
05:46much about the actions that I I take in the UK absolutely blown away by both of you and it makes
05:57you question whether I've been doing everything the right way I can see a future I can see peace and
06:04I'd like to be part of that conversation the only thing I can do is work as hard as I possibly can to
06:11make sure that people talk rather than fight we just can't we can't wash away this whole land with blood
06:19you
06:24you
