00:00I'm Sally Pryor from the Canberra Times. I'm standing in the heart of the city
00:15centre in the bus interchange, the Civic Bus Interchange, which is the least
00:19salubrious part of Canberra's city centre. It's a really awful place to be
00:23and it always has been and I wonder why that is. We're surrounded by beautiful
00:27heritage buildings, really nice restaurants, lots of shops, lots of people,
00:31lots of businesses and this is a place that you just can't get out of fast
00:35enough and I'm wondering why is that?
00:39We've got to be really careful looking around. It's kind of freaky sometimes but yeah, I mean especially now because of the construction and stuff but
00:47it's kind of what it was like nicer when I was little and they had like all the
00:50rainbow like park and like decorations and things. It was pretty then but
00:54it's kind of shabby these days. Yeah, but from their point of view
00:58probably wouldn't want to come back. Probably try and take them somewhere
01:02nicer than Civic but yeah, it's not really the peak of Canberra.
01:07Yeah, yeah. It's impressive all of the facilities and all of
01:11the buildings that we've been to are quite impressive
01:15that I would expect but I guess some of the parts around town are a little bit less
01:19than what I would have expected. I think that the pavements could do a really good steam clean
01:25regularly come from our place. We wash down our main streets every day, every night.
01:32So it is disappointing I guess to see the state of some of the footpaths and some of the
01:38the acreage around the buildings but I mean apart from that it's probably a little too bad there's
01:43some areas that could do with a little bit more of a clean up. Yeah. I mean I guess some of the
01:48services don't cope all that well with the demand that's there which is quite obvious but really the
01:57overall state is not too bad. I probably would have expected a little bit better than what we've got
02:04but certainly the bus services themselves and the tram services, they go to the place that we need to go to.
