Patrick House -- the winner of "The Biggest Loser" Season 10 -- says he thinks the documentary wasn't completely fair to Jillian Michaels ... and, he's got nothing but wonderful things to say about the reality competition.
00:00I heard the rumblings of the Biggest Loser documentary through our alumni page on Facebook.
00:06And, you know, I was always concerned about the light that they were going to paint the show in.
00:11And granted, every contestant had their own experience, and each one is their own, which is what makes it great.
00:16But, you know, I kind of made up my mind that if they did reach out, I was going to decline just because I wasn't sure what kind of light it was going to be painted in,
00:23and I wasn't sure how they were going to paint me.
00:25Big props to Danny Cahill and to Tracy and all the contestants that were featured on the documentary.
00:31I know it's not easy to let yourself back out in the open like that after being on the show.
00:35And so that was really great. I think that they shared their experience of the show.
00:40You know, for me, honestly, I look back at myself.
00:43In 2010, I was an unemployed 28-year-old dad that was given a chance by the producers of The Biggest Loser to change my life and ultimately save my life.
00:53Bob and Jillian, from day one when I met Jillian in Atlanta at my first challenge to the day I walked out on stage as the winner of Biggest Loser Season 10,
01:03Bob and Jillian, in my opinion, were like family.
01:06They cared about us. They pushed us to be our best.
01:10And, yes, did they yell at us? Did Jillian climb on my back?
01:13Did Bob say he was going to rip my legs off and beat me with them?
01:16Yes.
01:17But at the end of the day, it was motivation that we needed.
01:20Obviously, when you weigh 400 pounds, you don't get there by just having a simple eating disorder.
01:24There was a lot of background and emotional problems that went along with that.
01:28And that time that we got to spend with Bob and Jillian, when it wasn't just physical workouts,
01:32that was also the mental and emotional side, was invaluable.
01:36And so when I look back, my experience was incredible.
01:39Like I said earlier, if Todd Lubin, if Joel Relampagos, if J.D. Roth,
01:44if any of those producers walked in my office right now, I'd stand up,
01:47I'd give them a big hug and thank them for giving this Mississippi kid a shot.
01:51I'd watched the show before, and I knew how Jillian was.
01:54I knew how Bob was.
01:54I knew what I was getting into.
01:56You know, and like they said on the documentary, we had meetings with Dr. H.
02:01And we had meetings with Bob and Jillian.
02:03And Dr. H is a medical doctor.
02:04He's going to tell us what medically, how we should lose the weight.
02:07And he's going to give us the caloric intake number that he wants us to follow as our medical doctor.
02:13Bob and Jillian are world-class trainers.
02:16They know what it takes to lose weight.
02:17They were going to give us a number to consume to lose weight and give you the best chance possible to win the show.
02:22And when I look back at me, I left Mississippi unemployed with the mentality that winning the show was my job.
02:29And so when I had the opportunity to choose between listening to Dr. H or listening to Bob and Jillian,
02:34I myself made the decision that I was going to listen to Bob and Jillian.
02:37And I kept my food journal.
02:39I logged my calories.
02:40And I ate the calories that they suggested.
02:43And you know what?
02:44At the end of the day, not everybody can eat 800 calories and make it sustain and do it.
02:48I was able to do it.
02:49I don't know how, why I was able to do it, but I was.
