00:00If you've ever wondered what the inside
00:01of a dummy unit looks like, here we go.
00:07Special delivery, and I think you guys
00:10are gonna be interested because apparently
00:12inside this package is Apple's next iPhone,
00:16which should be coming out, I don't know
00:18when you're watching this, but soon.
00:20I think the release is imminent,
00:21Tim Cook's been tweeting about it.
00:24We make cases, as you know, later case,
00:27we make these really thin cases,
00:28so oftentimes in advance of the release of a product,
00:31we're trying to distinguish exactly
00:34how these should be constructed,
00:35and so sometimes we have these dummy models
00:38that show up which give us insight
00:39into the next generation of device,
00:41and obviously aid in our ability to craft our cases.
00:45So I have a few things here to look at.
00:48Obviously, the package itself with this demo model
00:51of the iPhone, will it be called the SE?
00:55Will it be called the 16E is another rumor?
00:59Either way, it's a budget iPhone with the same chip
01:02as the iPhone 16, and people are speculating under $500.
01:05If that's the case, I feel like they're gonna sell
01:07a few of these things.
01:08I feel like people are gonna be interested,
01:09but if you already looked at the case,
01:10then you also recognize there are some compromises,
01:14which we're gonna check out in a moment.
01:16So I actually have an iPhone SE here that,
01:18damn, this feels so nostalgic right now.
01:21That's like the display on this thing.
01:24Whoa, LCD display, Touch ID,
01:28none of these things are going to exist
01:31in this new generation of budget iPhone.
01:34It's actually gonna look a lot more,
01:35well, let's look at what the mock-up looks like,
01:37but it's gonna look a lot more like an iPhone 14.
01:40You've got a notch.
01:41Even though you may have a single camera setup,
01:45you've got a much better camera, thinner basils,
01:47a different design language.
01:49Let's just open the box.
01:50Why don't we just, hey Lou, open the box already.
01:53Listen, that's just the type of economy
01:56we're in right now, isn't it?
01:57People wanna get a budget iPhone, don't they?
02:00They wanna spend, the rumor is like $479 for a new iPhone,
02:06and maybe you don't need all this fancy cameras
02:08and camera control, and maybe you don't need a dynamic island.
02:11Ooh, this feels heavy.
02:14How many did they put in here?
02:17A lot.
02:19That's a chunk of demos.
02:23Oh, wow.
02:25We have different colors too.
02:31So boxy design.
02:35And single camera unit.
02:37Yeah, this looks like a modern version of an iPhone SE.
02:41I personally think they should go with 16E
02:43or something like that to insinuate to people that, yeah,
02:46it's a budget model, but it's gonna run like a 16 does,
02:50because it has the same chip as a 16.
02:52Like, I think that's a nice indicator for people.
02:54SE doesn't really mean it.
02:56Like, I think that's a little tougher to interpret.
02:58I don't think anyone's out there bragging about having an SE,
03:01but maybe they don't wanna cannibalize the actual 16 sales.
03:04I mean, you can see where the notch will live.
03:06Everything else I look around, we still have the switch,
03:08the hold switch, which is interesting.
03:11Volume buttons.
03:12Presumably a switch to type C and away from lightning.
03:18And then some other color options.
03:20White is there.
03:23White and silver.
03:24This one is buzzing.
03:30This one has a haptic motor in it.
03:32Whoa.
03:35It shows a battery logo.
03:38I've never had a demo model ever do that before.
03:41What do you mean charge?
03:42I don't even think it has a real port.
03:44I don't think it's an actual port.
03:46No, it's not.
03:47No clue.
03:49Can you see that?
03:50It's dim, but it has a strong haptic feedback
03:57and a battery icon.
03:58No, that's not.
03:59There's nothing there.
04:00I don't know, guys.
04:01It's like, did they put a temporary,
04:03like one-time use battery in there?
04:05That's really weird.
04:06Oh, this one's doing the same.
04:07Is there a weight to it?
04:08Look, but this haptic isn't as good.
04:12Next level dummy models play off like as if they're dead.
04:16Anyway, the rumors did suggest
04:18that it would only be available in black and white.
04:20Considering it's a budget model.
04:21I think the tough part here is determining
04:24like how to market a product like this
04:26without completely wrecking your iPhone 16 sales.
04:30Because I think a lot of people would actually go
04:32for something like this.
04:33So maybe they do end up continuing to call it SE
04:36so they can still sell 16s to most people
04:39and obviously get those higher profit margins associated.
04:43It's just definitely a new generation of SE
04:46or whatever they choose to call it.
04:48Much bigger camera module.
04:50Actually, a lot thicker device too
04:53compared to the last generation of SE.
04:55And just kind of bigger in every direction.
04:57Including obviously the display,
04:59which now is gonna span far closer to the edges
05:03and not have this giant forehead and chin.
05:07No more touch ID either on that new generation.
05:10And then let's see how our later case fits.
05:12Oh my goodness.
05:13Fits on there perfectly.
05:15You can see your camera module there.
05:17It does make for a nice, single-handed,
05:20comfortable phone to hold.
05:24Oh , the camera just came off in the case.
05:27Oh no.
05:29The whole back is coming off it.
05:30We're gonna inspect this dummy
05:31to figure out exactly what's going on here.
05:33Whoa, here we go.
05:35If you've ever wondered
05:36what the inside of a dummy unit looks like, here we go.
05:43And now I've never seen one like this before
05:46that actually has, see the weight in the center
05:49is to give it a weight similar to if you had an actual battery,
05:52but it's just these watch batteries
05:55that are powering that haptic feedback that I'm getting.
05:58You can hear that?
05:59It, hear that?
06:02Tiny little haptic motor.
06:04I don't know why you would need that in a dummy model.
06:06You're just trying to look at the dimensions of the thing,
06:08but it is interesting nonetheless.
06:10That's the type of demand that exists
06:12for these dummy models at this point.
06:13So here we have a comparison to an iPhone 14,
06:17and they are identical.
06:20The form factor is identical.
06:22So if you're familiar with an iPhone 14,
06:24obviously we have a single camera unit
06:26instead of a double camera unit,
06:28but otherwise does the layout completely match up?
06:30It does.
06:31Power button.
06:32You can see your antenna bands,
06:34the aluminum external materials,
06:36SIM trays in the same spot.
06:38Your switch is still there.
06:40Volume buttons, ports.
06:42Although, like I said, upgrade to USB type C
06:46on the 16E or iPhone SE 20, 25,
06:51whatever they end up calling it.
06:52I honestly think they could sell a lot of these things.
06:55An upgraded bezel when compared to the previous generation SE,
06:58which is outdated.
06:59And if they hit that price point,
07:01479 as suggested,
07:03I know it's not gonna be the coolest phone in the world,
07:06but there's a lot of people hanging on to their old devices,
07:09reluctant to upgrade,
07:10because of the crazy cost associated $800,000, $900,000 smartphones.
07:15If it truly comes in 479 with an A18 chip,
07:21it can basically run like an iPhone 16
07:24and an upgraded single camera unit.
07:27I think a lot of people are gonna go for that.
07:29You let me know in the comments if that's appealing to you.
07:31If you would buy this over an iPhone 16 or 16 Plus,
07:36if they are able to launch it at that sub $500 price point,
07:41would this be your next iPhone?
07:43And also, what should they call it?
07:45Should it be the iPhone SE still,
07:47or should they call it the iPhone 16E?
07:51Let me know in the comments.
07:52Oh, and if you do end up picking one up
07:54and you want some super thin coverage for it,
07:56I definitely recommend Latercase.
07:58It's what I use on my own phones, you know?
08:01And that's why I made it.
08:02Actually, even if you don't have this phone,
08:04or you're not gonna buy this phone,
08:06we've got later cases for all your phones.
08:09So, click the link in the description for that as well.
