Kneecap rapper Mo Chara to appear in UK court over alleged support for terror group

Kneecap member Mo Chara is scheduled to appear in court today in London. The Metropolitan Police has issued Public Order Act conditions for today’s court date, which has prompted Kneecap to react: "It is a distraction from war crimes that the British State support."

00:00Kneecap member Mokara, real name Liam Ogg Ohana, appeared in court in the UK on Wednesday
00:07over allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag on stage at the show last November. Wednesday's
00:13appearance at the Westminster Magistrate Court is the second for the Irish rapper following
00:18an appearance on 18 June after which he was released on unconditional bail. The 27-year-old
00:24rapper was greeted by crowds chanting free Mokara and waving Irish and Palestinian flags.
00:48His fellow band members also arrived at the court according to local media reports. The
00:53Kneecap have been a vocal supporter of Palestine in the Israel-Gaza conflict and sparked controversy
01:00for their repeated and defiant pro-Palestinian support during concerts and festivals. They
01:07have consistently denied supporting either Hamas or Hezbollah. Since Hezbollah was banned in the
01:13United Kingdom in 2019, it has been an offence to show support for the Iran-backed group.
