We visited the new activity hub at Hillsborough Park, Sheffield
Transcript
00:00So, the new activity hub in Hillsborough Park is finally up and running, so the star has
00:12decided to come have a look and see what we think of it.
00:17The venue, run by Courtside, has a Sheffield themed mini golf with local landmarks amongst
00:22the hazards.
00:23It's also got new paddle courts and tennis courts, and free activities are available
00:29including table tennis and a multi-games area.
00:33It's also got a cafe.
00:36Activities coordinator Ruben Newman-Billingham told us how the venue has been received.
00:41Ruben, what's been the reaction to the opening of this new activity centre at Hillsborough
00:46Park?
00:47So far it's been really positive, we're really pleased with the people who've come
00:52through the door, we've had lots of nice feedback, I think people are really enjoying the activities
00:57and everything that's on offer, so we've been really, really pleased with how people have
01:02responded so far.
01:04What's proved to be the most popular of these activities so far?
01:08I think it would be a close tie between the paddle and the basketball, so the paddle at
01:13the weekend was fully booked, but we're also seeing a lot of people use the multi-use games
01:19area to play basketball throughout the day, so we're really happy with how both of those
01:22have gone so far.
01:25How's it going explaining the rules of paddle?
01:28It's getting easier with every time I do it.
01:32We've got some rules up on the wall for people to sort of have a look at.
01:36The thing with paddle is though that you can sort of make it enjoyable for yourself without
01:40knowing every single rule off by heart and I think a lot of people sort of make fun out
01:44of the way they do it themselves.
01:46Could you explain to us the prices that are being charged?
01:51Yep, so there's a range of prices on offer.
01:54There's a mix of free and paid activity.
01:58The multi-use games area is free to use and you can hire equipment for free.
02:02We can lend out footballs, basketballs and netballs as well.
02:07There's table tennis tables just to our right which is also free and again we hand out the
02:11equipment for free.
02:13There's tennis courts which are £6 an hour but if you're under £18 or over £65 it's
02:20just £4 an hour for a court booking.
02:21We've got paddle courts as well which are £24 an hour if you've got someone in your group
02:27who's under £18 or over £65 then it's £20 an hour and they're amongst the most affordable
02:32courts in the city and they're covered.
02:37Locals also gave us their views of the new facilities.
02:42What do you think of the new facilities here at Hillsborough Park?
02:46Good.
02:47We've been here ages haven't we?
02:49We might have been here five hours today.
02:51What's been your favourite?
02:53Err, the skate park and basketball.
02:56Skate park and basketball.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Do you think you'll come again?
03:00Yeah.
03:01Definitely.
03:02Tomorrow.
03:03Yeah.
03:04I think they're great.
03:07I think they're really good.
03:08Yeah.
03:09It's so nice to have all this.
03:11It's lovely and the children just enjoy it so much.
03:15Have you been on any of the activities yet?
03:18We've been on the crazy golf and just had a mess around on the table tennis.
03:24Did you enjoy it?
03:25Yeah we did actually.
03:26Yeah.
03:27Yeah we did.
03:28Well that's a bit funny for table tennis.
03:31I can remember when there was an 18 hole mini golf course there.
03:38Outside on a grass 18 hole course.
03:41Long time ago when there was a boat, when the duck pond was a boating lake.
03:47That's a long time ago.
03:49Does it still step back towards that?
03:51I think it's an improvement in a lot of ways.
03:56Well I've just tried out the new activity hub at Hillsborough Park and I think I've enjoyed it.
04:03I tried the paddle and I found the rules of the game quite complicated when they were explained to me.
04:11But it was good fun and I think you could use it and just basically play tennis rules and that would work very well.
04:16I also enjoyed having a go at the golf course which very much reminded me of the old days when they used to have a putting green at mill houses.
04:25This one's much more ornate but the feel of it, I thought it was quite similar.
04:31Price wise it's a fiver for an adult for the golf but you can also get a family ticket which is available and that would only be £15 for up to 6 people.
04:43In terms of the food in the cafe that seems pretty reasonable as well.
04:46You can get a baked potato for £4 and I like it, I'm impressed.
04:50So I'm impressed with let's see if I can get a bitcoin.
04:54Let's do that on the other day.
04:57Here's the first few days gone in the UK to get and get some beer, I'll find a beer, I'll find a beer.
04:59You know what I want, I'll find some beer, I'll find some beer in here.
05:03But see, it's a lovely people who are a good one.
05:04I know I know I've heard a beer, I don't know.
05:06It's a beer beer, a beer beer, I'll find a beer beer.
05:08So I'm so sorry I'm going to get some beer beer.
05:10I mean, I know I'm so sorry...
05:13You know, I'd be a beer, I mean, I know I'll keep the beer in there, I'm so sorry.
05:15I don't know, I know.
