Transcript
00:00What does Jimmy Fund mean to you? How quickly, you've been here a few years now, how quickly did you realize how big a deal the Jimmy Fund was around here?
00:30No, it's a very good cost, very good cost. I'm very happy to be part of it. Even more when these kind of events help to fundraise money for people who need the treatment, who might not have the means to get it. So for me to be part of it is great.
00:55Now, Brian, you're a very big family man as well, and you see what an impact that, you know, cancer can have on these families, but also what incredible work that Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber do to not only keep these families together, but also help them get through it and stay positive. That must mean a lot.
01:12That you are a family person. You are a family person and when you see that this foundation not only helps children, but also to keep them together, what does that mean for you?
01:22It means a lot. It means a lot for me to be part of this. Even more when the Jimmy Fund not only helped the kids, but also the families around them.
01:48And I feel like that's a big part of what they do. And it's a big part of also the whole idea of this, of the Jimmy Fund. Not only helping the kid, it's just helping the whole family.
02:03Well, you're obviously a high profile player. You hit home runs. You're a gold glover. How is it for you when you see a kid on a visit, whether it's spring training or here in Boston, meet you and just see like just meeting you can light up a kid's face?
02:59No, it means a lot. It means a lot. Anytime I meet a kid or somebody to see the joy on their faces, to see how I can, with that little moment, can change their life or can make their day, right?
03:13And not only for me, but also with my teammates. Every time we have the opportunity to meet any kid or anybody, we're happy to do it.
03:22And even more if I'm his hero or somebody very special that they're looking up to. So if I can do that just to bring a little bit of joy is something that I'm very proud of, I'm very happy to do.
03:34What's your favorite part about playing in Boston and being a member of the Red Sox?
04:03I feel the fans. The fans, they always support you. They're always behind you. They make you feel like home. And for me, just, they make you feel special when you play here.
04:13And for me, that's a big, big part of playing here. And that's why I enjoy so much playing here.
04:19Brian, can they help you do your job? Because we talk to Alex Corr every week and he talks about Fenway and some of these Friday nights and how electric it's been.
04:28Can that help you guys do your job when there's a buzz at Fenway Park?
04:53Y a mí me encanta.
05:06Sí, of course. Sí, of course. It helps a lot. Pitching out there in front of these fans means a lot to me. Every time you go out there, they're always supporting you.
05:16It doesn't matter if it's raining, if it's cold, if it's hot. It doesn't really matter. If you're winning, if you're losing, they're always there.
05:23And for me, I will go out there to give my 100% not only for me and my teammates, but also for the fans that are watching us and that are spending their night here watching us play.
05:31You got the contract all locked up, which is great. You got a fan base, a team around you, great teammates. What's next? Playoffs? And how can we get there this year?
05:41You got your contract, you got your family, you got your friends behind you. What's next? What's next? Playoffs, the World Series?
05:50Playoffs, playing World Series, and I want to try that too. I want to know how to play a game here. It's fun to me. I imagine playing a playoff, a World Series here in the Fenway Park.
06:03It should be something much more electrician.
06:05I want a taste of it. I want a taste of the playoffs. I can't imagine if playing a regular season game here is electrifying. It's amazing. I can't wait to see how the atmosphere is going to be if we make it to the playoff.
06:18And also, winning here, I hear that it's everything for everybody who's won here, so I want to experience that.
06:24Willier, what's the vibe of this team like? Because there's a lot of young guys. You guys, obviously Roman, Marcelo, all these guys.
06:31So, Rafaela, playing such a big role. But then you also got Trevor Story, and you got Bregman, and some of the vets. What's the vibe of this team like?
07:45I can feel how the young players are adapting very well to our dynamic and also how the veteran players are helping us to actually be accountable and be there.
07:57So, I want to be, we not only want to make it to the playoff, we want to get as deep as we can and not only this year.
08:10We have to keep wanting to keep it doing year after year because that's something that we really want.
08:16And beat the blanking Yankees.
08:21I can't say that word on the radio.
08:23Real quick, I just wanted to ask, so, you know, a lot of attention paid to you guys coming up.
08:27You guys are a part of the future.
08:29And then now, here comes the handsome shortstop and the handsome guy out in right field as well getting a lot of love.
08:35What's your relationship like with Marcelo and Roman and, you know, just the outfield full of, like, stars of the future for Fenway?
09:13Muchas cosas buenas van a venir.
09:15No, it's unbelievable.
09:16They're, like, they're, they're unbelievable.
09:18They're, the relationship that we have, we get along very, very well.
09:23I know that the team chemistry that we have is, is, is one of the best.
09:29Every time you're in the clubhouse, you're just enjoying yourself.
09:32And I know that we're going to have that for a long, long time.
09:35And for them being part of it, it's great.
09:37And did you, Brian, did you try to make Roman pay for dinner the same way they tried to make you pay for dinner in the documentary?
09:42We need to try to do that.
09:50Yeah, a lot of cameras, I saw a lot of cameras, too, for me.
09:55Carlos, do I get to ask you a question?
09:57Yes, of course.
09:58Do you like your job?
09:58I feel bad asking these guys' questions through you.
10:01How are you doing?
10:02I'm doing great.
10:04I'm just grateful to be part of this initiative.
10:07Also grateful to work with them every single day to help and to get their message across to everybody in Boston and, and, and whatever they, they might see us.
10:18So, yeah, I'm just grateful to be in this position.
10:20It's a place that cares.
10:21Yes.
10:21You know, from the Jimmy Fund all the way down to the fans to the work you guys put in.
10:25Like, it's a place that cares and you can never fake this kind of passion.
10:28Yes, correct.
10:29All right, Brian Baio, Wilier Abreu, Carlos Veloria, their translator.
10:33Appreciate you guys stopping by.
