The Scotsman Fringe First Awards week two - Rift
Transcript
00:00I'm here with actor Blake Stadnick from show Rift and producer Richard Jordan.
00:10Hello, nice to be here.
00:11Hi, nice to see you.
00:12And you've just won a Fringe Fest award for Rift, so how does that feel?
00:15Tremendous.
00:16Tremendous.
00:17You know, I mean, it's never anything that any of us ever take for granted, of course.
00:21You come here and you hope people are going to respond to a play that you've spent a lot
00:25of time creating, and it's kind of wonderful that, you know, the press and the audiences
00:31seem to have really connected with what Gabriel Jason Dean as the playwright wanted to say
00:35and wonderful production that Ari Loracreef has put together.
00:38So, you know, we couldn't be happier could be Blake.
00:41I'm elated.
00:42I've said this so many times, but Rift is one of the most important stories I have ever
00:47told as an actor and I'm thankful for it every night and to have it recognized like this is
00:53absolutely astonishing.
00:54And can you just tell us a little bit about what the play is about?
00:57Sure.
00:58It's based on the real life relationship between our playwright and his brother, who
01:03is currently serving a life sentence for murder in Georgia, and he is also a former high-ranking
01:08member of the Aryan Brotherhood, and it's a story that takes place over 20 years and it
01:15just explores the question that can you have a relationship with someone who you once loved
01:22and now whose ideas you hate.
01:25And that, I guess, is also what makes the play quite timeless because although it deals with
01:29what's the current issues, of course, that are happening in the world at the moment, underneath
01:32it all it's a story about essentially two brothers in a relationship and, you know, and an interconnects
01:38in lots of different ways over that period of time.
01:41Wherever you play that play, it will make a connection to an audience that's watching it.
01:45Lovely.
01:46Well, thank you so much for joining us.
