00:00Wrexham's fairytale risers hit an early bump with back-to-back defeats, marking their long-awaited return to the championship after a 43-year absence.
00:13Ryan Reynolds and Ron Michael Henney were in attendance at the Stock K-RAS for the Red Dragons' first second-tier home game since 1982,
00:21but the Hollywood co-owners could only watch as West Brom claimed a 3-2 victory.
00:26Despite the growing global profile of the club, Reynolds insists his and Michael Henney's role is deliberately limited when it comes to football matters.
00:36Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained,
00:38We have a very hands-off management style. Our job is to listen, learn and tell the story. We don't make football decisions. That's the great gift of this role.
00:48It means we have a genuine relationship with the players, which is rare in ownership.
00:53Michael Henney echoed the sentiment describing their role as one of a supporter rather than influence.
01:00We've got our specific job. It's to be clowns and tells the story the best we can.
01:05While being respectful of what Phil does on the pitch and what the executive team does off it,
01:11we just get to sit back, be fans and document the process.
01:14That process has been remarkable. Since Reynolds and Michael Henney arrived in 2021,
01:20Wrexham have enjoyed three successive promotions, becoming the first club in English football's top five divisions to achieve such a feat.
01:30The rise has been supercharged by commercial success, boosted by their owners' global reach.
01:35This summer, the club have been aggressive in the transfer market, breaking their record fee three times.
01:41The headline signing as well, striker Nathan Broadhead brought in from Ipswich in a deal worth up to £10 million.
01:49He made his debut against West Brom, though it was not enough to prevent another defeat.
01:55For all the glamour and growth, Wrexham now face the harsh reality of the championship grind.
02:01Points have proven elusive, but the owners' message is clear.
02:04They are fans first, storytellers second, leaving the football to those entrusted to keep the fairy tale alive.
