00:00Where in Europe is it easy to access contraceptives?

00:08Access to effective and affordable contraception

00:11remains a challenge across the continent,

00:13but most countries are moving in the right direction.

00:16According to the latest contraception policy atlas

00:19by the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual and Reproductive Rights,

00:24contraceptives in 22 out of 47 countries

00:27are covered through national health systems.

00:30And with the exception of Austria, counseling is also included.

00:35However, it is Western Europe that is leading the way.

00:38France and Luxembourg are in first and second place

00:41with scores of over 93%,

00:44followed closely by the United Kingdom, Portugal and Belgium.

00:49Poland, Hungary, Cyprus, Slovakia and Greece

00:52are at the other end of the scale,

00:55ranked among the lowest for access with respective scores

00:58ranging from 33% to 49%.

01:03In their 2025 atlas,

01:05the researchers acknowledged policy advancements

01:08in countries such as Austria, Ireland and Luxembourg.

01:12They recommended that policymakers expand coverage

01:16and improve counseling services,

01:18as well as monitoring the development of new technologies

01:22to combat disinformation and ensure reproductive autonomy

01:26for all Europeans.
