00:00Hi in the tropics on this Sunday evening I'm meteorologist David Eckert in Severe Weather Center 9
00:04A lot to get to as Aaron's beginning to make its move off towards the north
00:08In a second area we're going to keep an eye on in the open waters of the Atlantic
00:12Let's first talk about Aaron, this was a category 5 storm, now down to a category 3 system
00:17One thing you notice very quickly is this is a much larger system than it was just 24 hours ago
00:22As it completed its eye wall replacement cycle
00:24Despite its size and despite its intensity
00:27There has been no change here to the forecast thinking
00:30It still looks like it will continue to work its way northwestward and then northward
00:34As we head into the early part of the week
00:36Eventually pivoting off into parts of the North Atlantic as we get into Thursday and Friday
00:41For us the biggest concern is going to be swells
00:43Those will begin to arrive on Monday along the east coast Florida beaches
00:46Really beginning to tick higher as we move into Tuesday
00:49And it looks like the worst of the swells will probably be Tuesday night Wednesday
00:53It's going to be the closest pass of Aaron
00:55And then things will begin to improve on Thursday
00:57But still the rip current threat likely lingering all the way through the upcoming week
01:02So here locally the biggest concerns are going to be some wave heights
01:05Potentially 6 to 9 feet up and down the east coast
01:08Also going to have those elevated rip currents
01:09And we'll probably be dealing with some beach erosion during the high tide cycle
01:13Especially Tuesday night and Wednesday
01:15Elsewhere this is a new area that we're keeping an eye on
01:18Open waters of the Atlantic
01:19This is near the Cabo Verde Islands
01:21Very very loosely organized here tonight
01:23And not much is going to happen in the next couple of days
01:26But the models are indicating that this could organize a little bit more
01:30This would be mid to late week out here in the main development region
01:33It is simply too early to know though
01:35How that will play out
01:36But it is something to keep an eye on
01:38And it is a clear indication
01:39We are now rapidly moving into the peak of the hurricane season
