00:00Are you planning to travel through this part of Leeds?
00:04If you regularly use this route, you'll know there are currently a lot of construction works in Headingley,
00:10and now road users are being urged to plan ahead for overnight works,
00:15which are taking place at Hyde Park Corner between 7.30pm to 6am through to Thursday 21st August.
00:23The overnight works are part of a £10.4m scheme aimed at delivering a segregated inbound and outbound cycle track on both sides of the A660 in Headingley.
00:34The outbound lanes towards Headingley and Lawnswood of the A660 between Rampart Road and Woodhouse Street will be closed and diverted.
00:43Leeds City Council say the A660 is one of the city's busiest routes,
00:47with thousands of people walking between North Leeds and the city centre every day,
00:51along with more than 1,000 cyclists daily, and a high number of cars and buses.
00:58They've said there is likely to be some disruption during construction, which will be kept to a minimum,
01:03and they're encouraging people to plan ahead while travelling along this route.
01:07Works at Hyde Park Corner are delivered alongside major upgrades to the North Lane Junction,
01:13and they're the latest stage of Leeds City Council's plan to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists,
01:19and helping to speed up bus journeys between Headingley and the city centre.
01:23Other changes have included the introduction of a 20mph speed limit between Shore Lane and St Michael's Road,
01:29and wider pavements and continuous crossings at most junctions.
01:33The scheme aims to improve safety on a route which saw 172 casualties between 2016 and 2021,
01:39and it's being funded by a grant from Active Travel England.
