00:00Want to head to space? Soon you could make the trip on a very intense hot air balloon ride.
00:09The company Space Perspective wants to fly passengers to the edge of space on board their
00:14high-performance balloon and pressurized capsule called Spaceship Neptune. And they just announced
00:19plans to launch the first uncrewed test in early 2021 from NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
00:24The massive football field-sized balloon can carry up to eight explorers inside its pressurized capsule
00:31on a six-hour trip. Space Perspective says over two hours, Neptune will rise to above 99% of Earth's
00:37atmosphere to a cruising altitude of 100,000 feet. Once there, passengers will have up to two hours
00:44to drink in the view and, of course, share images and videos on social media. And it'll take a couple
00:49more hours for the huge balloon to descend back to Earth and land over the ocean, where a ship
00:54will pick up the passengers. The company says they also want to open the first research
00:59and education laboratory at the edge of space, helping shed light on our universe, life on
01:04other planets, and Earth's climate and air systems.
