00:00our research is focused on breast cancer and specifically postpartum breast cancer this is
00:23a class of breast cancers that are diagnosed in women under 45 years of age and this is a result
00:29of changes in when we're starting to have children the best protection against breast cancer is
00:34actually an early pregnancy in under 20 or to around 20 years of age however what we've been
00:40learning is is that if you have your first child after age 30 you increase your risk for breast
00:46cancer by 40 to 45 percent and what we in our collaborators have discovered is is that what's
00:52happening in the breast is there is a change in the immune or infiltration or inflammation that
00:57is occurring as a result of this this change specifically as you're going through black
01:02time lactation and specifically involution or when the when the child stops nursing this is
01:08resulting in an influx of these in inflammatory cells in a change that's resulting this increase
01:14in cancer risk so by understanding that can we reverse that can we target those specific
01:20cells or understand different markers that are responsible so with that increased risk you need
01:33to be vigilant on mammograms doings self exams to make sure that if there is a lump or something that
01:42does not feel normal that is coming up that you are in a risk group and then with that risk group you
01:48need to be need to be really in contact with your doctor
