Motorcyclists bring joy to sick children in Buenos Aires hospital
Thousands of motorcyclists dressed as superheroes, villains, and princesses rode through downtown Buenos Aires on Sunday, August 17, to bring toys to children hospitalized at Garrahan Hospital, a high-complexity pediatric center hit by government funding cuts.
The children at the hospital happily welcomed the thousands of motorcyclists, who handed out candy and toys on Children's Day, which is celebrated every August in Argentina, while family members and doctors applauded.
The precarious situation of the hospital, a national reference center, has become a symbol of the general deterioration of the health system, which has worsened since the ultra-liberal President Javier Milei took office in late 2023, whose austerity plan has also mainly affected education and pensioners.
