00:00Don't look away. I'm about to hypnotize you.
00:05Lock your eyes on that red dot in the center of the screen.
00:09The longer you stare, the crazier this is going to get.
00:13In a few seconds, I'll ask you to look around.
00:16And when you do, everything will start moving.
00:19Your hands, the walls, the ceiling.
00:22Keep your eyes glued to that dot and just focus on my voice.
00:27I'll count down from three to one.
00:30When I hit one, your whole world is going to start warping.
00:35Ready?
00:36Three.
00:38Two.
00:39One.
00:40Now look around.
00:42Did it work?
00:47You have control over this optical illusion.
00:50Nothing is actually moving here.
00:52But if you quickly shift your gaze between the four corners,
00:55you'll probably start to see it wiggle.
00:58Now let's really put you in charge.
01:01Fix your stare right in the middle.
01:03Focus on the dot at the center and hold it.
01:06Did the movement stop?
01:10Look at these two faces.
01:12Which one's a woman and which one's a man?
01:15You probably said the left one is female and the right one is male.
01:18Makes sense.
01:20Except they're the exact same face.
01:22The only thing we tweaked was the contrast around the eyes and mouth.
01:26This illusion happens for a reason.
01:29If we get high contrast features, your brain sees them as feminine.
01:34And low contrast feels masculine.
01:37Take a look at the two rows in the center.
01:40They look like they're moving to the left, right?
01:43And the top and bottom rows seem to be shifting to the right.
01:46Now, squint your eyes as hard as you can.
01:49Notice anything?
01:51Yep, the motion just flipped.
01:55See that red dot in the center?
01:57Keep your eyes on it and try your best not to blink.
02:00Then, when I say go, you've got to quickly look at a blank space on the wall.
02:05Ready?
02:06One, two, three, go!
02:11Did you see how the image showed up on your wall, but way bigger?
02:17The next one is called the sunburst illusion.
02:20At first, everything looks pretty normal when you stare at the center.
02:24But then, try following the blue dot as it moves left and right.
02:28Suddenly, boom!
02:30It's like a dazzling burst of light explodes right in the middle.
02:34Which one looks bigger?
02:37The shape on top or the one on the bottom?
02:41Got your answer?
02:42Well, surprise!
02:44They're actually the exact same size.
02:46This is just another version of the Jastro illusion.
02:49And it happens in real life, too.
02:51Check out these two toy railway tracks.
02:54The lower one looks way bigger, right?
02:57But nope, they're completely identical.
03:00Can we all agree that this guy is looking straight ahead?
03:05No debate there.
03:07Now, stare deep into his eyes.
03:10Keep looking.
03:11Any second now, these black bars are going to slide over the image.
03:16And something weird is going to happen.
03:19Suddenly, his eyes started shifting left and right super fast.
03:23But hold on.
03:24Don't let your brain fool you.
03:26This image is completely still.
03:28Your mind is just filling in motion where there isn't any.
03:32Quiz time!
03:34What's the shape of this image?
03:37A. A spiral.
03:39B. A funnel.
03:41Or C. A bunch of circles.
03:44C is the right answer.
03:46These are just several circles.
03:48If you still don't believe it, pause the video and trace them with your mouse cursor or your finger.
03:53C. No spirals. Just circles.
03:57This figure 8 shape is spinning like crazy.
04:02But I bet you see one side moving way faster than the other.
04:06Except, it's not.
04:08The whole thing is actually spinning at the exact same speed.
04:12The reason it looks uneven is all because of the way the letters move.
04:17One side rolls more smoothly than the other.
04:19This messes with your perception, making one half feel like it's speeding up while the other slows down.
04:27Two things are happening here.
04:29First, the square in the middle totally looks like it's moving.
04:33That's only because those color-changing spheres keep flipping between black and white.
04:38But what if I told you the square doesn't even exist?
04:42Yep, it's not actually there.
04:44Your brain just makes it up.
04:46See, when our minds don't get the full picture, they guess.
04:51Those L-shaped corners trick your brain into thinking,
04:54Oh yeah, that's 100% a square.
04:57But it's not.
04:59Apparently, this optical illusion reveals a lot about your personality.
05:05Take a good look and tell me.
05:07What's the first thing you see here?
05:09If you saw an island first, that might mean you have sharp perception
05:14and a super social nature.
05:16Friendships and connections matter a lot to you.
05:20But if the first thing you saw was a cat, you're probably a type of person who rarely gets annoyed.
05:26Even in awkward or tense situations, you just laugh it off and keep things chill.
05:31So does that sound like you?
05:33Let us know in the comments.
05:35I have a challenge for you.
05:38Can you find the black dot?
05:40I bet your eyes are all over the place right now.
05:43Kinda like a cat after a laser pointer.
05:46Something similar happens in this next image with a little more subtle effect.
05:51But try this.
05:53Move your eyes counterclockwise around the picture.
05:55Suddenly, a bunch of blinking lights appear out of nowhere.
05:59Can you see them?
06:02At first glance, this looks like a totally normal staircase.
06:06Nothing weird.
06:07Okay, now turn your phone upside down.
06:09If you're watching on a TV or computer, don't worry.
06:12I'll flip the image for you.
06:14Now, blink a few times and…
06:17Wait a second.
06:18It looks exactly the same.
06:20No matter if the image is right side up or flipped, the stairs refuse to change.
06:25Here's another one with stairs.
06:29So, what do you think?
06:31Are they going up or down?
06:33Well, this is a perfect example of an impossible object known as the Penrose stairs.
06:39These steps don't really go anywhere.
06:42They form a continuous loop.
06:44So, if you were to climb them, you'd just keep going forever without getting any higher.
06:50Look at this stunning cityscape.
06:54Gorgeous, right?
06:55But can you spot something else in this image?
06:58Take a closer look at the outlines and you'll realize…
07:02The city is actually shaped like an apple.
07:07If you see a yellow circle in this image, let me just say…
07:11It's all in your head.
07:13If you zoom in, you'll see that these are actually just grey and black stripes.
07:17No yellow circle anywhere.
07:19And the same thing happens with the green you might be seeing here.
07:24There's no green here either.
07:26It's just black and white bars.
07:30Take a look at these blue and yellow circles.
07:33Do they seem like they're changing shape?
07:35It sure looks like they are, but nope.
07:38You might think the arrows in the center are messing with our perception, but they're not doing anything.
07:43Here's the real trick.
07:45If we zoom in, we can see that the edges of the circles have thin strips, just a few pixels wide, of contrasting colors on both the inner and outer rims.
07:56As the circles spin, these strips cause the circles to appear like they're changing their direction and size.
08:03What happens when you place a bunch of filled circles on top of a checkered pattern?
08:09This happens.
08:11At first, these circles seem like they're all warped and deformed, but here's the kicker.
08:16If you zoom in, you'll see it's all an illusion.
08:19Those circles are actually perfectly fine.
08:22Now, here are two GIFs.
08:26The first one has a weighty pattern, and the second one looks like it's expanding from the center.
08:31But can you guess what they both have in common?
08:34Well, sorry, I lied.
08:36They're not actually GIFs.
08:38They're just static images that your brain tricks you into thinking are moving.
08:45Alright, let's wrap up this video with a fun little challenge.
08:48Your brain will try to convince you that all you're seeing in this grid are numbers 8.
08:53But there's a sneaky number 6 hiding somewhere.
08:57Only the most expert observers will be able to spot it.
09:00So, can you find it?
09:05Time's up. Here it is.
09:07Did you get it?
09:09If you did, hit that like button.
09:12If not, share this video with your friends and see if they can spot it.
09:16That's it for today.
09:18So, hey!
