00:00For the first time for MXGP this weekend, the final time today, Herlings gate 1, Vembra gate 2, Geyser gate 3.
00:1085m down to turn 1, the 5-second board turns, who is it going to be that grabs that all-important hole shot?
00:16Kunin a couple of gates over to the right of Geyser, he gets a good gate, in fact he's spun up coming off the gate.
00:22Massive hole shot there for Koldenov it looks like.
00:25And it's Koldenov who leads the way from Herlings, a couple of dutchies leading the way.
00:34Very close on the outside of turn 2 though, Vembra right where he needs to be 3rd, Geyser 4, Vellaner in 5th place.
00:43Dropping downhill for the first time, Panza in 6, Kunin 7, Fernandes, Jonas, Siwa gifting in 11th, then Steri, then Renault.
00:51As Herlings takes over the lead.
00:57Oh, Koldenov tried to outfox, Vembra who has a couple of goes on the tear-off.
01:02He knows this is his time to make hay if you like.
01:06Quickly pass Koldenov, he knows he's got Kunin behind him.
01:10Kunin at the top of the hill, look behind Vellandrin.
01:11Look at the intensity and the determination from the number 3, he moves to the lead.
01:22Perfect opening lap so far for the Frenchman.
01:24Tim Geyser, trying to get in on the, a couple of five-time world champions here folks, side by side, on this opening lap.
01:48Geyser looks to cut back.
01:50Herlings keeps him there in that third place.
01:56Koldenov 4, Vellaner in 5, Lucas Kunin as Geyser sweeps around the outside of Herlings, moves into second position.
02:05Not coming back just to make up the numbers, is he?
02:07And Herlings, putting it back in his place.
02:17A couple more races under his belt.
02:19Maybe just a little bit more sharp on the race craft front.
02:22Nothing wrong with the tools in the 84 box, is there?
02:2411 world titles, in the first three positions.
02:39Kunin still struggling to find his way past Vellandrin.
02:43Start of lap 2 here.
02:44There he is in the left-hander now, mid-turn, top of your screen.
02:52Roman Fevra looking to make a break for it.
02:57Two quick passes on the opening lap for Fevra.
03:01Koldenov and then Herlings.
03:03Moves his way into the lead.
03:05Geyser quickly into second.
03:07Herlings saying no, I don't think so.
03:08Geyser now settling in that third place at the moment.
03:12Koldenov in fourth, Vellandrin fifth.
03:14In the left-hander now.
03:16Moving out to the tough blocks, that's Kunin.
03:19He's in sixth place.
03:22Put the flag out now, with the qualifying race point situation.
03:25Fevra would pick up ten points.
03:27Herlings nine, Geyser eight.
03:29Koldenov seven, Vellandrin sixth.
03:31Kunin would be picking up five points.
03:33So that would be a five-point game for Roman Fevra.
03:38From this race.
03:45Doesn't look like they've put any water down.
03:47But obviously, circuit conditions a lot more rugged than they were.
03:52Since their time practice session.
03:54Around about 2.40, 2.35 when the session finished this afternoon.
04:0165 and 85 race.
04:03A European 250 race.
04:04An MX2 qualifying race since then.
04:06The sun has moved direction as well, behind those trees.
04:10So every time you come back in the opposite direction.
04:14So out of turn one, jumping up in the turn two.
04:16That sun a little bit lower.
04:17Shadows getting longer.
04:21Visibility getting less and less in that respect.
04:24Lucas Kunin here.
04:28Red Bull KTM.
04:30Still occupying that sixth position.
04:32Didn't have the same urgency.
04:34That same burst of speed that Roman Fevra had.
04:37That took him from third to first.
04:39In the first few corners of this race.
04:41But he's ridden a smart campaign so far.
04:50Hasn't pushed.
04:51When he didn't need to.
04:56Let the race come to him.
04:57There's Fernandes.
04:59In seventh place.
05:00Jan Pantzer in eighth.
05:02Another good ride for the Slovenian on the Tim JP253 private KTM.
05:06Fred Mandonic, Jem, Honda in ninth.
05:10Just behind him.
05:10And then Paul Jonas back from injury this weekend.
05:13Kawasaki racing team.
05:15He's in tenth place.
05:17The seventh at the time practice.
05:27Just outside of the top ten.
05:29Isaac Gifting.
05:30A quiet hillside at the moment as Gifting.
05:32Gifting tries to find his way past Paul Jonas.
05:38Get himself into the points just to bring this hillside alive.
05:44Dallandren.
05:46And Koonan.
05:47Fifth and six.
05:48They plunge downhill into the bottom of the valley.
05:51At the end of lap two.
05:53Out of the final turn here.
05:54And they'll head uphill.
05:56Over the Monster Energy finish line jump to start their third lap.
05:59Nothing in it between them as you can see.
06:05Outside inside combinations has worked well if you're close enough to make a pass in other races so far.
06:11We saw it again with hurlings on Geyser at the end of that opening lap, didn't we?
06:18Koonan just not close enough at the moment to execute the move on the Lander.
06:22Adam Sterry up to 14th.
06:29Seewa down to 15th at the Welshman's expense.
06:35So the Aruba.it Ducati rider, a three-time winner of this Grand Prix.
06:39In the past, don't forget, Seewa now in 15th.
06:44Right, Tim Geyser.
06:46Making his way back onto the rear wheel of the Red Bull KTM, Geoffrey Hurlings.
06:49These two are going to be fighting over second and third place.
06:53Fevra was the fastest man on track last time around.
06:56By a considerable margin.
06:59149.6.
07:00Hurlings and Geyser in the 52s.
07:03This was Geyser jumping past Hurlings at the end of the lap.
07:08And then a couple of corners later, Hurlings, not ready to be bullied into third,
07:13said, take back second if you don't mind.
07:15Hasn't been able to follow Fevra through at the moment, though.
07:23Fevra, 6.2 seconds clear as they hit that third intermediate split.
07:28What a step up into that right-hander we saw a moment ago.
07:31Is there going to be another fastest lap here for Fevra, because it was fastest in sector two.
07:40Not a million miles off on the sectors one and three as well.
07:44But this time around is into the 150s.
07:486.4 seconds clear of these two.
07:50Cold enough, back and forth.
08:062.6 seconds adrift.
08:08Bit of an edge there for Geyser.
08:11Just heard the panic rev.
08:12Circuit properly chewed up, actually, this weekend.
08:24Especially on the new part of the racetrack, to the riders' left as they jump downhill.
08:29The little switchbacks.
08:31The softer dirt breaking down very easily.
08:33Long, rugged ruts, and then as you come out of turns like this, some horrible rocks and edges.
08:40So bad coming out of that left, but this right, top of the hill, and then coming out of this left, some horrible holes there.
08:53And shadows in the ruts here.
08:54Well, I'll tell you what, you don't want to leave the door open there, Jeff.
08:58Timothy, he'll be through.
08:59Yeah.
09:01No, no.
09:02No, no.
09:03The gap between Feather and Herlings going back out to 7.8 seconds now, as Herlings and Geyser continue their battle over second place.
09:25Geyser just trying to ease his way back into competition.
09:29He's got a fantastic facility down there in his homeland, Tigerland.
09:38Ripping a few laps down there, just getting himself up to speed, but there's no simulation
09:43that can prepare you, other than being in a race situation itself.
09:48So, all the training laps, yes, you can go against the clock, do your motos, do your races, do your time on the bike, hit your laps, do your marks, everything else.
09:56There's no substitute for being out there in racing conditions, gifting all over the back of PJ, 41.
10:04Paul's Jonas, as he continues to try to break into that top ten.
10:08Jonas, missing in action since, after Germany, well, second race in Germany, wasn't it? Maybe the first race.
10:18Those ruts there as they transfer through that, coming out of turn five towards turn six.
10:36Edges on the takeoffs there as well, it's hard, but the thing is, well, the temperature's quite warm, so what happens is, when you start to sweat, if you've not, okay, these guys are well, kind of ridden, if you like.
10:50Their hands are pretty hard anyway, the calluses and things like that, really suffer too many blisters, but on a warm day like today, those hard braking bumps is when you kind of really get the aggravated blisters on your hand.
11:02Everything, especially on downhills as well, hard braking bumps, hanging on to the bars, everything coming through the bar, through the glove, through the grip.
11:18Good ride this for PJ, hanging on to 10th place at the moment.
11:24Brent Vandonek, just ahead of him, in ninth on the GM Honda, is gifting.
11:32Just behind him, in 11th position, Maxime Renault, factory Yamaha, in 12th place, Bonacorsi, factory Fantic, 13th Stereo, on the Chambers KTM, in 14th head of Siwa, Bogus, Guadagnini, Watson, on the MRT, Beta, and then Quentin Prunier, for Honda SR, Moda Blues, SR, Motel.
11:56Right, try and see if we can decide what's going on here, shall we?
12:03Koldenov, by about a week, Hurling's behind him, Fevre, quick to get by, Tim Geiser, he knew that was a decisive move.
12:13Look at Koldenov there, about 10 games over, like Louis Armstrong, all the time in the world.
12:18So, Fevre, just continues to build his lead, more than 10 and a half seconds, that's what that looks like on screen.
12:34Hurling's and Geiser, Hurling's going tight inside, and actually, interesting, he took the inside line, Geiser, was on that same inside line a lap ago, when he saw Hurling's go wide.
12:47Geiser, using the Hurling's line that time around.
12:51Oh, look at him now, carrying good corner speed, alongside, might not be a pass at the top of the hill, but he might cut to the inside, and go wide, cut back in this next turn.
13:02That's exactly what he tries, but not close enough.
13:08He already did the jump long down the hill technique, Geoffrey Hurling's thinking, I know what you're thinking, I ain't falling for the turning tight, jumping down the hill, long technique, twice.
13:17A little bit more urgency about him, than there was on the opening lap.
13:31No sex on the pit board, near zero seconds, that is.
13:34Right, Jonas, up to ninth, he's found his way past Brent Van Donig, which means gifting now has a shot at breaking into the top ten, if he can find his way past the Belgian.
13:54Seewer has found his way back past Adam Steri, moves back into 14th place.
13:58Five seconds adrift of Andrea Bonacorsi.
14:13Short burst uphill.
14:15Hard, rugged rucks.
14:17They're dropping down, look at that.
14:20Tramline, some deeper than others, some more holes than others.
14:23More rocks, there was a bit of a moment there, just as he stepped up, put him guys up.
14:30Just in the base, of that climb.
14:47Inside, outside, which one are you going to take?
14:49Last time around, Volanren, Kunin, Fernandez, all put in their best laps last time around.
14:55Volanren still hanging on in that fifth place.
14:57Kunin still no movement from him, in sixth.
15:05So gifting, gets alongside Van Donig, and forces the move, that'll please the fans up on the hill.
15:14Gifting now up into tenth place.
15:16Lucas Kunin, last time he was outside the top five in a qualifying race, was round six in Switzerland, when he was tenth.
15:35Last time he was outside of the top two was Great Britain, where he was fourth.
15:41Got a fifth in Germany.
15:43Sorry, Kunin, fifth in Drago, Great Britain, that's right.
16:01What's going on between these two at the moment?
16:02As they continue to remain pretty static.
16:08In that second, third place, is Mattia Guadagnini.
16:12Guadagnini in 17th place at the moment.
16:14Just ahead of him, Brian Bogers.
16:17Just throw some whips anyway.
16:18Very Valentin Guadagnini-esque.
16:24Round one, Argentina.
16:30Max and Renault putting his best lap in as well.
16:321.52 as he inches towards gifting.
16:35Factory Yamaha rider.
16:36Chasing the JK Yamaha rider.
16:40Doesn't want to be outdone by the Swede.
16:45But Roman Fevereux, barely seen him all race.
16:4813 seconds clear almost at the moment of Hurlings and Geiser.
16:51Colden off about five seconds further back.
16:53Malandrin keeping Kunin at bay.
16:56Those two separated by about a second,
16:58as they have been pretty much most of the race.
17:03Guadagnini up and over the step-up.
17:07And from one Aruba.it Ducati rider to the other,
17:10Jeremy Siwa.
17:14It's currently circulating in 14th place.
17:26Launching downhill towards the end of lap eight.
17:34Kunin's still not really gaining ground on Van Arga.
17:38Must be a frustrated race for the number 96 Red Bull KTM rider.
17:44Here he is.
17:56He'll find his mojo, won't he?
18:10Just not quite working for him
18:12today so far
18:15for Lukas Kunin.
18:19Sweden last year
18:20went 1-1
18:21to win the overall Grand Prix.
18:24It's not like this is a place
18:26that he doesn't like.
18:37But there's just so much more
18:39to this weekend
18:39than showing up
18:41and trying to challenge Febbra.
18:43We've said it
18:44around or so ago
18:46when Jeffrey Hurlings
18:47came back into the mix
18:48where
18:48you think
18:49how much will he affect
18:50what's going on
18:51at the top of the championship.
18:52So far it's not really happened
18:53but today in this qualifying race
18:55Hurlings back
18:56Geiser back
18:57Febbra lead in the way
19:00championship leader
19:01Hurlings is second
19:02Geiser is third
19:04without those two
19:06Koldnoff would be second
19:07Valarren third
19:08Kunin fourth
19:08you're still losing ground
19:09but there's another couple riders
19:11taking a couple extra points
19:13and sort of
19:15neighbours in the paddock
19:16or not
19:16you know
19:17Geiser and Kunin
19:18when they put their helmets on
19:21they're here to do business
19:22they're here to race
19:23win
19:23score as many points
19:25as possible
19:26and Lukas Kunin
19:28find himself in six
19:29right from the very first
19:30couple of corners
19:30of the race
19:31and not able to advance
19:33any further forward
19:34meanwhile
19:36gifting
19:37in 10th
19:39here
19:395.17
19:39still not able to find his way
19:42past Jonas
19:42but he has followed him through
19:43and so too
19:44is Maxime Renaud
19:44in the background
19:45Maxime Renaud
19:46in 11th place
19:47factory Karasaki
19:51private Karasaki
19:52factory Yamaha
19:52they drop down
19:54into turn 5
19:55nice line that
20:03but just had to hit the brakes
20:04Isaac Gifting
20:05allows
20:08Jonas just to break free from him
20:11time ticking away
20:13just keeping an eye on the clock
20:163, 2, 1
20:18our riders are still in the final sector
20:20they're only just going over sector 3
20:21so
20:22to that board
20:24will go out this time around
20:26as Maxime Renaud
20:28gains
20:29momentum
20:30downhill
20:30takes the long way around
20:31not able to find his way
20:33past Gifting
20:34both a little bit loose
20:35on take off
20:35urgency here
20:37from the Frenchman
20:37then he goes off track
20:39nice
20:41kind of compromise
20:44to get back on track there
20:45watch this
20:47runs off track
20:48can't get back on here
20:51and then all of a sudden
20:52just uses the up ramp
20:53and just
20:53so costing a little bit of time there
20:59Maxime Renaud
21:00frustrated in 11th place
21:03bit of respite though
21:06for Gifting
21:07two to go
21:08Roman Fevre
21:09talk about head down
21:11and focus
21:12that's exactly what he's done
21:13here today
21:1313 and a half seconds
21:16former winner here as well
21:19of course
21:19don't forget
21:20don't think he's barely
21:28looked back
21:28has he at all
21:29not even looked across
21:30just trusted everything
21:32the team has said
21:33he's trusted the process
21:35as well
21:35in his own riding
21:36in his own ability
21:37probably had a good word
21:39with himself
21:40after Longmore race
21:41two
21:41fascinating Grand Prix
21:43as well by the way
21:43Flanders if you've not seen it
21:45watch it on watch back
21:46on demand
21:47it's definitely turned up
21:55not happy with the back marker there
22:05even with a 14 second advantage
22:12with just over a lap to go
22:13not happy look
22:14dude
22:15why though
22:16Freeburg's I think
22:19the culprit
22:20so a bit of a static race
22:28this one
22:29as we move into the final lap
22:31although nothing static
22:33about Roman Fevre's
22:34riding
22:35if you took points
22:38like in athletics
22:40you know
22:41sort of like the heptathlon
22:42the catlons
22:43the more seconds you win
22:45or the more seconds you win by
22:47in a 1500 minute distance race
22:50for instance
22:50or the more distance you get
22:52over a javelin
22:52all equates to points
22:54Bevere will be thinking
22:55why can't we have that here
22:56in MXGP
22:58because 13 seconds
22:59that gap
23:01the gap is only going to be
23:03what it is points wise
23:05in terms of positions
23:05Gifting enters his final lap
23:07pressured by the 959
23:10of Maxime Renault
23:13Vellandrin fifth
23:14here's Kunin in sixth
23:15hasn't been his day
23:16in the races today
23:17on one hand he'll be frustrated
23:23but on the other he'll say
23:24okay well
23:25you know
23:26control, hold, delete
23:28stick that in the trash
23:30have a bike to eat
23:33do what I normally do
23:34on a Saturday night
23:34whatever that is
23:35have some fun
23:36talk to the team
23:37maybe make some changes
23:40to the bike
23:40if that's what's needed
23:41come back swinging
23:43in races on Sunday
23:44we will soon find out
23:49won't we
23:50we will know
23:50soon enough
23:51nothing worse than
23:54being in this situation
23:55having to ride around
23:58something
23:59whatever it is
24:00knowing you've got more
24:05in the tank
24:05well one rider
24:07who won't be worried
24:08too much
24:08when he goes to sleep
24:09tonight
24:09will be Roman Fevra
24:10handful of corners
24:15away from taking
24:16the chequered flag
24:16coming into this weekend
24:23one of three riders
24:26to have won a qualifying
24:27race on Saturday
24:28he'll stand alone
24:30as a three-time
24:31qualifying race winner
24:32as he wins
24:33the qualifying race
24:34here nice little heel
24:35clicker
24:35as he crosses the line
24:36as well
24:37he knows that's a big
24:38win on a Saturday
24:39to get his weekend
24:40off here in Sweden
24:41to the perfect start
24:42Lucas Kunin though
24:43does have six wins
24:44in the quali race
24:45Jeffrey Herlings
24:47Tim Geiser
24:48across the line
24:49second and third
24:50Koldenov fourth
24:53Vellaner in fifth
24:56Kunin sixth
24:57Fernandes seven
24:58and then look at this
25:00Pansa
25:01Jonas
25:02Gifting
25:02and Renault
25:03Pansa
25:09Pansa eight
25:09Jonas nine
25:10Gifting
25:10picking up a point
25:11tenth place
25:12better than nothing
25:14but Isaac Gifting
25:19will have a quick word
25:20with the circuit
25:20announcer there
25:21not sure what your
25:24Swedish is like
25:24but mine is
25:25not that great
25:26great atmosphere
25:32isn't it
25:32but Fevre
25:35draws first blood
25:36here in Sweden
25:37as he wins
25:39the qualifying race
25:40Lucas Kunin
25:41comes home
25:42in sixth
25:43place
25:43Fevre
25:44picking up
25:45ten points
25:46Kunin
25:48picking up five
25:49the gap
25:50the gap
25:50going out
25:50by another
25:50five
25:51points
