09:07companies Kalia to give you guys some more insight into Kalia we have a special guest vice president and
09:18head designer for Kalia Alisha Scott so good to meet all of you we created Kalia about 10 years ago and
09:32really wanted to form a brand that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function
09:39and I love how you guys have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted
09:44in performance if you're designing a look for Pilates or run it needs to be able to function we
09:50believe there's beauty in the burn how's it gonna work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure
09:55that when you're designing a piece it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab
10:02cocktails with your friends it needs to be versatile so not only has Kalia provided lookbooks they've
10:08also provided all the fabrications for the challenge that's not all Kalia is going to produce and sell
10:18the winning look from the winning collection that would be so cool to have a Joseph McCray and Kalia
10:25produce but I feel like it would eat down I love the idea of this like beauty in the burn so what if we
10:32have like fire on the runway like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part of tomorrow to create
10:41your fire worthy collections don't you love a one-day challenge yes one day to do this as if there
10:49weren't enough stress already the burn of it all Ethan you want to see what it's like when you put
11:01Antonio and I together it's gonna be game on and it's gonna push me to even do better to beat him

12:17it we decided to call our team the house of Lotus because we wanted to feel the zen within the burn
12:23and so coming off the last challenge being in the bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as we're
12:31going through these fabrics that Kalia provided us we're really paying attention to what color palette
12:36we want to do so that we really nail that cohesion this time because if we miss it two times in a row are we
12:42going to be done for I love this fabric that was trying to get the colors out of this this has all
12:48all your colors once again Antonio is choosing the fabric and I'm getting a little anxious because
12:56the last time he chose fabric we were in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back so the fabric that I
13:03brought from home is in pink so let's have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies that's
13:08the best one out of all of them I think we should go with that I don't like that no you like this better
13:14I mean I like this I don't like that either but I mean I wanted to start with Miss Joan I want to
13:20know what it is oh is the drama already beginning you know working with the twins you know they're a
13:26whole vibe but our looks have to be cohesive I love Miss Joan but she's a little little old school
13:34and stuck in the back in the days this fabric's so cool it's just more young I'll make it work
13:39don't use the fabric scissors you nincompoop I love Alex I didn't expect this competition to become so
13:51connective so quickly and me and Alex bonded so quickly it's so soft it's so cozy like she's gonna
13:57be in it I want it I want it I'm making a lounge sweatsuit with a corset bustier top it all sprouted from
14:06trying to use the aspects of a kimono I grew up in Greensboro North Carolina but my nana was a tailor from
14:16Nagasaki Japan so I find a lot of inspiration in what the Japanese call intangible cultural treasures but my
14:25mama would say that I don't bring enough of the South with me how are you feeling this week
14:32you know great it looks really cool thank you so much I appreciate you are absolutely looking at
14:39the next winner of project runway my design aesthetic is a combination of street wear and elegance I want
14:47to win project runway for my daughter Ava it's right here having her changed me as a person it gave me so
14:54much more dry and I do this all for her so I have to make this stand out and hopefully while the judges
15:00Madeline what informs your work I'm trying to always like see things that I like about vintage fashion but
15:13then giving it like my own little twist what about yourself I grew up in like a hoedunk farm town I just felt
15:21inherently so different from the rest of my family the only thing I could really do was you know rely
15:27on my own creativity and imagination to kind of distract me from maybe not feeling like I belong
15:32there did they accept you as you are like you know when I finally did come out they were like we don't
15:41get it yet but we just don't want to lose you so we're gonna try to figure this out I feel really
15:47blessed to be able to have my family in my life so it makes me want to really push myself to win this for
15:56them hello how's the team going I do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord
16:09this might send me home I am a technical designer and I am a serious workaholic my family is Jamaican
16:19and I've always been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not
16:24their job they're gonna figure out how to do it that day and do it so I have to push myself because
16:30this workout to weekend challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone I really wanted to do something
16:36that was extremely comfortable I think it feels a little too demure I think I made the right
16:42decision I was the one who fought to use this print because Mrs. Joan didn't like it she still
16:48doesn't like it okay so you did it again you wanted to print again everybody wants this print
16:54groundbreaking this circle skirt yeah mm-hmm I can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes
17:04really we're kind of not the exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket and a
17:13jacket and a skirt a jacket and a skirt let me tell you a little something about Christian Seriano
17:19Christian to come in the workroom like are you sure about that or he be walking around like oh okay
17:28that little face be killing me with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped it to the side the
17:33top being fabulous is very important here we should develop this more because you already know you can
17:39make a cool jacket I'm gonna listen to Christian because I know I'm taking a risk but I do not want
17:44to be in the bottom again you got a lot to do I got you okay let's get it I'm kind of going for like
17:51that modern with a little bit of Tron this sash doesn't do anything she couldn't do any athletic
17:58things with this hanging hmm what are all these lines on this so I kind of want to achieve this kind
18:07of like texture all of these lines you're gonna weave the inspirations for this design is the Kalia
18:13logo it's like a twisted string it's like very dynamic what are you doing it's going to be like
18:22a more like athletic fancy corset bustier kind of thing this makes no sense for an athletic look that
18:33scares me athleisure specifically is not something that I normally do unfortunately time is not on our
18:41side in this competition Christian has his doubts about this corset but we're sticking to our guns
18:47hmm what are you doing I am doing an oversized hoodie which I'm thinking about cropping I did the
18:55pin tuck in my hand mm-hmm it's gonna have the same pin tuck in all over the pants as well so you're
19:01also doing a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant in the same fabric is the pant wide like that
19:11wide you haven't even looked at each other's stuff and she's like right she's right in front of you
19:15honestly I really don't know much about what my team is doing this is it yes looks very similar I
19:22haven't looked at the other designers on my team I've just been too focused so we just have a wide pant off
19:29on the runway in the same fabric what the like what am I gonna do next I need to think fast and pivot into
19:37some other different silhouette if I don't succeed I'm worried it might put me on the bottom
19:41so I'm looking at team Lotus and it does not fit the brief that we got it's gonna be the papa so
19:54we both have mesh their looks are looking a little all over the place I think that we're gonna take
19:59this one home I look at the other team it's like crickets in that side of the room no one's really
20:05talking to each other and here we are like you know blah blah and then at night she just puts a
20:11glove on honey okay this do this like we're helping each other yes yes you think I hate to tell you but
20:18you will be the losing team this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top I think so
20:36so how does one do anything athletic in that top I think I'm over here eating it up and it's just like
20:47yeah no are we playing tennis where you tie your arms up if I don't come through with this brow
20:54like I feel like the whole look is gonna go kaput so different when I design on paper and design you
21:02you tread this pleated skirt it's really short I thought it was a mistake but it's not a mistake
21:09because mama I'm a slut you decided yeah I'm gonna do some nice George and then the cargo pockets
21:17that shoe are you nuts what kind of shoe black whoa what

21:27you have no side seam there's no side seam interesting you can't do that look at her butt
21:37that's crazy these pants are styled after a Japanese hakama pant where there aren't really
21:45side seams and all of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to my
21:53Japanese ancestress it's really important for me to nail this look that I make and I am feeling the

24:16that goes from workout to weekend you worked in teams and you had only one day to create your

24:28editor-in-chief of Elle magazine Nina Garcia and our guest judge and co-owner of the fashion line
24:38favorite daughter Sarah Foster I'm so excited to see miss Sarah Foster she has a really good head
24:45on her shoulders around how to make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's
24:50gorgeous okay we're ready let's start the show it's gonna be flaming hot I wish I had a marshmallow
24:58this guy flammable hair now wait a minute I told you it was gonna be hot and I was not talking about
25:02Hans and France I do feel like I have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with
25:20creating something that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tuck in the silhouette the styling is
25:26really good I'm feeling really confident she's a professional I'm very proud of this book my look
25:36looks very modern sexy and fun and the red line on the jacket is everything that is a short skirt but
25:44she's got some good legs look at us now here I come I'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as I expected it to be but I know what's going on on the inside
25:59this Bessie Bessie Bessie I'm not happy about it it could have been worse it could have also been better like that I would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:11with my athleisure look I'm feeling pretty satisfied I like it I think it's cute it's nothing
26:22like really shocking but I am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:30she looks amazing I've worked hard to achieve that details that those string woven by hand I cut all
26:42those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile I want to make sure that every
26:48piece that I made is a labor of love I don't get that curly hair with that
26:52with its side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:04I would wear that now I may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so I'm hoping that it can
27:09pull this team through to the wind
27:17this look it's very universal this girl can do Pilates and then put some heels
27:22on put a jacket on and go have a cocktail with the girls at night I'm proud of myself it would
27:27mean a lot to win this challenge to have that collab with Leah I'm happy with how this look turned out
27:38I feel like it's me and I'm starting to be more confident in what I'm designing and
27:44believe whatever I'm creating is good I see my look coming down the runway and I'm thinking okay yes
27:54even though I didn't choose this fabric I was able to be a team player and I think that she looks
28:01fabulous I love the drama well we know who that is my model is looking so everything and then she
28:22unzipped this jacket and it's just like oh welcome to the party bring out the tata I took a risk with
28:30almost recreating my previous look and I hope this paid off that's my girl wow like I'm just literally
28:43getting chills the way she's walking the way that the pants are moving how powerful she looks I'm
28:48feeling great I could definitely see this in stores and see a lot of people wanting these pants wanting
28:54this bomber even the bag I love this our team everything was executed beautifully and I think
29:01that that showed on the runway I am not worried about myself but it's hard to tell you know it's two
29:09different vibes so I hope that the switch doesn't come back to bite me in the butt hello hello hello

31:49then I'd also wear it to dinner that night with a pair of jeans I don't I I'm into you I don't know
31:54how else I can say I mean I was into all of it I like your look too I like her vibe it stands out it's
31:59memorable to me she's badass and flirty at the same time thank you Joseph thank you so much everyone

32:12I think it's really beautiful I love all the detail that you made with the pockets correct and I love
32:22the fact that you considered an option she can be reserved with the turtleneck and she can be super
32:28sexy without it yep I mean I like that fabric as you can see the detail of the skirt is really cool and
32:36it's a flattering waistband waistbands can go very unflattering girl very easily whatever it is I like

33:33about the zipper on the side can you turn around and that little pocket with that little black detail

36:24the silhouette I think is nice I like the length I like that it's not a midi and it's not a mini I
36:29think that's versatile a lot of people can wear that it's just really that's that's all I liked
36:32about it you guys like the ties thank you I love dangling I think it kind of looks like a tampon I
36:38think oh I mean this is this is unwearable I also don't understand this girl I think the work that
36:45you've done I think it's quite beautiful but it doesn't scream active wear to me at all like I don't
36:50get it that's the problem the problem yeah you needed to make this a top a pair of black leggings
36:58and call it a day and you would have had a hit this didn't need to be a cocktail dress out of
37:04context all right Angelo let's hear about your look um I designed men's street wear so I just
37:11wanted to stay true to myself I think where you have to be careful Angelo is that it felt to me a
37:19little safe and boring you really need to bring in a sense of drama step it up listen I'm a basic
37:27bitch so I love sweats I think this is cool I like this it's different you know I mean it's not
37:32for me but I appreciate that you added that detail yeah on sweats I think it's really well made but it's
37:39just this there was no showmanship to it yeah you know I think that's where you fell flat okay thank

37:50kimonos I incorporate into the way that I create different pieces is that part of your heritage to
37:56kimono yes my grandmother was Japanese okay so I go to the sauna a lot and I love a corset I don't
38:03care what the situation is at the sauna well obviously you're not gonna wear a corset in the
38:09sauna but post sauna you can but you gave her a corset she doesn't look comfortable at all she
38:14can't work out in this guys the story has to match you cannot piss on me and tell me it's raining I'm
38:21sorry okay well the corset you're right but the pant and the sweater top I did like I liked the
38:26movement coming down the runway I don't know what it was coming down I was like oh it looks kind of
38:30like Laura piano vibes come on guys turn around please no do you see the seam of the pant when she
38:39turns around there's the puckering yeah it is a struggle in the back there's a little bit of a
38:44problem with this bib that falls from the corset I think there's too many ideas put in the flap in
38:50the front the flap on the arms she's playing Amish to her heritage and yes I love that but I don't

39:14this is a show and you're competing with people that are going to razzle dazzle you have to remember

39:32really well made it was just out of context yes I would buy that it was the wrong story
39:38the sneakers with it is for me the worst yeah she has to really watch out for her styling because I
