00:00Canada's booze ban is hitting American makers hard and fast. According to the Wall Street Journal,
00:05Canadian provinces have stopped ordering U.S.-made spirits, wine, and beer after a trade battle
00:11sparked earlier this year by President Trump's tariffs. Liquor stores have yanked American
00:16brands from shelves, swapping them for Canadian products. The impact is already showing. The
00:21Distilled Spirits Council says U.S.-distilled spirit exports to Canada totaled just $43.4
00:27million in the first half of 2025. That's down 62% from a year ago. American wine exports plunged
00:3467% in the same period. Ontario, Canada's most populous province, sold over $700 million worth
00:42of American liquor and wine last year through its government-run LCBO stores. This year, zero.
00:48The dispute is spilling beyond alcohol as well. The Journal reports many Canadians are boycotting
00:53other U.S. products and even canceling vacations south of the border, fueled in part by anger over
00:59Trump's recent threats to make Canada the 51st state. That'll do it for your daily briefing from
01:04the New York Stock Exchange. I'm Caroline Woods with The Street.
