00:00Hi everyone and a warm welcome to our channel. Today Deepak and I are discussing a topic that
00:12truly needs more attention in India, mental health awareness. It's something so many of
00:18us grapple with yet often in silence. That's absolutely right Sonia. Mental well-being is
00:23just as vital as physical health but it often carries a stigma that prevents people from
00:28seeking help or even talking about their struggles. Our aim today is to start that
00:33conversation. Historically in India, mental health issues have sometimes been dismissed as weakness
00:39or attributed to other factors. This has created a deep-rooted stigma. Yes and this stigma makes it
00:47incredibly difficult for individuals to open up. Think about our friend Rahul Verma. For years he
00:53struggled with severe anxiety but he kept it hidden even from his closest family fearing judgment.
01:00It took him a long time to finally seek professional help and it was a tough journey because of that
01:05initial hesitation. Rahul's story is so common. We need to remember that seeking help for mental
01:11health is a sign of strength not weakness. So how can we start breaking down this stigma and
01:17encourage more open conversations? I believe the key lies in education and empathy. We need to educate
01:23ourselves and others about common mental health conditions, recognizing their symptoms and
01:29understanding that they are treatable. It's about approaching others with compassion rather than
01:34judgment. That's a great point Sonia. When we understand, we can be more supportive. Just by
01:40listening without judgment, we can make a huge difference in someone's life. What are some practical
01:45steps people can take to support their own mental well-being, especially with the daily pressures
01:49we face? My knowledge is a bit limited on this Deepak so I'm sure you can explain this better to our
01:55viewers. Of course Sonia, simple things like ensuring enough sleep, a balanced diet, regular physical
02:01activity and mindfulness practices like meditation or yoga can significantly contribute to mental well-being.
02:09Also, maintaining strong social connections and engaging in hobbies you enjoy are crucial.
02:14It's about building resilience. Yes, prioritizing self-care is not selfish. It's essential for a
02:21healthy mind. And for those who might be experiencing more severe challenges, professional help is
02:26available and highly effective. Absolutely. Therapists, counselors and psychiatrists are trained
02:31professionals who can provide guidance and support. There are also many helplines and support groups that
02:37can offer immediate assistance. We must normalize seeking professional help just as we would for a
02:43physical ailment. Achai, it's high time we treat mental health with the seriousness it deserves.
02:48Ultimately, building a mentally healthy India means fostering a culture of understanding,
02:54acceptance and support. Exactly. Let's work together to create a society where no one feels ashamed to
03:00talk about their mental health and everyone has access to the care they need. We hope this video
03:06helps spark more conversations. If you believe in breaking the stigma around mental health,
03:11please give this video a thumbs up, share it widely and subscribe to our channel for more important
03:16discussions. Shukriya. Remember your mind matters. Take care of it.
