00:00Hi my name's Lucy, I'm the city reporter for the Canberra Times. Today I'm in Vinnie's Mitchell
00:10distribution centre. Around me you can see all the clothes Canberra and surrounds has donated
00:16which will be sent out to other centres and shops across the region. I talked to Gary who's the
00:22manager of the centre about what he needs to see more of from Canberra in terms of donations and
00:27how grateful they are for the help the community supports. So our sorting room is a controlled
00:33environment both heated and cooled to provide a comfort for workers that come to sort. Well this
00:44room is split in half this room is split brick homewares on one side and clothing on the other
00:50so as the centres or centre let's say our retail shops are sending our product back to us we're
00:59asking them to break it down into either homewares or clothing so that it can be separated here at the
01:06warehouse. Sometimes it gets mixed but most of the time they're separated. So we do some of it goes
01:13in the end of the bin it does go to landfill unfortunately there are some things that we
01:17can't that there's there's no avenue for recycling but we do have avenues like the smash room that
01:24takes some of the items for for their business we have metal recycling cardboard we do the copper
01:33cords from from electricals and any of those unusable products but we also have the two goodie sites
01:39now that we can actually push some of that product to now as well so if it's something we think that our
01:46retail centres might not sell we're actually pushing it onto our goodie sites because they have a little
01:52bit more space to maybe put a bigger item than in some of our retail centres.
02:00So that's a summer boxing station this is a winter's boxing station so we break our categories down into about
02:0652 categories so that it gives it a bit of a range for our retail centres to order from this is what this
02:17is winter yeah it's broken down into different categories ladies men's and kids so and the the
02:26amount of items in the box depending on if it's a jacket it might be only about 20 items when you go
02:33into more of the summer items it can be up to 60 to 90 items in a in a in a box
