A man and a woman suffered severe burns and were placed on life support after a car fire near the Simpang Renggam toll plaza in Kluang, Johor, on Wednesday (Aug 13).

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrain Mohd Noh said initial investigations indicate the 44-year-old suspect dragged the 37-year-old woman from a workers’ bus, poured petrol over both of them, and set them alight with a lighter.

00:00A man set himself and a 37-year-old woman on fire after dragging her off a bus near
00:06the Simpang-Rengam-Tol Plaza in Kluang on Wednesday morning.
00:11Kluang OCPD Assistant Commissioner Bahrain Mohamed Noh said police received an emergency
00:16call at 5.46 a.m. reporting a burning car at the scene.
00:22Preliminary investigations revealed that the 44-year-old suspect pulled the victim from
00:27a worker's bus, doused both of them with petrol, and ignited a lighter.
00:32A local man in his 30s who tried to help was also injured.
00:37All three suffered severe burns and were rushed to Enche-Basar Haja Khalsam Hospital for treatment.
00:43The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for Attempted Murder,
00:48which carries a penalty of up to 20 years imprisonment and a fine.
00:53Police urged anyone with information to contact the nearest station
00:58or the Kluang District Headquarters at 07778-4222.
