First-time visitors ? who want to see the real situation at Aluthkade Food Street in Colombo, Sri Lanka? This video takes you to Aluthkade—one of the city’s most famous and chaotic food streets 🇱🇰.
On the evening of my third day, I booked a tuk-tuk ride using Uber and arrived at Aluthkade around 7 PM. From a distance, I saw the beautiful Lotus Tower glowing in the night sky. The street was alive with lights, smells, and sounds.
Aluthkade is packed with food stalls offering every kind of dish—Sri Lankan short eats, Indian curries, Arabic grills, Turkish ice cream, and even Western-style burgers and sandwiches. There’s also a unique non-alcoholic cocktail stall selling colorful drinks I’d never seen before. Prices are very reasonable, and the vibe is energetic and welcoming.
As I walked toward the end of the street, I came across a well-known vendor—often called the “dangerous man of Aluthkade.” He’s a local gangster and food shop owner who was previously involved in a viral YouTube incident with Emeka Iwueze [Watch here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGI_ZcqvAB0).
When I approached his shop, he greeted me politely and invited me inside. I respectfully told him I was filming.
After capturing both sides of the street, I decided to head back to my hotel. It was getting late, and after 9 PM, Colombo streets can feel unsafe for foreign travelers.
