00:00All right, moving over to the West Coast, California Governor Gavin Newsom says today is Liberation Day,
00:04vowing to redraw California's congressional map to fight back against President Trump and the GOP push to redistrict Texas.
00:13Newsom also stealing Trump's signature style, writing on X, quote,
00:18Donald Taco Trump, as many call him, missed the deadline.
00:22California will now draw new, more beautiful maps.
00:25They will be historic as they will end the Trump presidency.
00:28Dems take back the House.
00:31Gloria Romero is the former Democratic leader of the California State Senate, and she joins us now.
00:38Good morning. Thank you for joining us.
00:40Obviously, we have this tit for tat now, I guess, with Greg Abbott looking to add five seats.
00:46Now, Gavin Newsom said he'll do the same thing in California.
00:48Is it that simple in California?
00:50Is it simple as Gavin Newsom wants to redistrict so they'll do it?
00:53Well, it's one party rule, and this is what you get when you have a very elite, out of touch with the voters, legislators,
01:03but they control all the political levers in California.
01:06So this is allegedly about redistricting.
01:09We call it Gavin Mandarin, and it's about fixing and rigging the maps
01:15so that basically it helps Gavin Newsom launch his anti-Trump presidential campaign.
01:22That's really what this is about.
01:24But yes, it's that easy, sadly.
01:26There is an election involved in this in terms of putting the redistricting on a ballot in November.
01:32Is that right?
01:34Correct.
01:35You will have to go to the ballot.
01:37What's interesting is that right now, the California legislature is on vacation, summer recess.
01:42They come back on Monday, and then within five days, suddenly, they are supposed to produce maps.
01:49This is sort of the ultimate, like an immaculate conception of redistricting, where within five days, no public hearings, no visibility.
01:58They're suddenly going to produce maps.
02:01All of this is already being penciled in in backroom meetings controlled by Gavin Newsom and his cronies.
02:09You know, real quick, I know places like Orange County have had a tremendous shift over the last maybe 10 years.
02:14We have, like, Daryl Issa now is in a different district than he represented for a long time.
02:20Is there any areas that would be a big pushback that they might be surprised?
02:24Hey, we thought we turned this blue, but it actually is a GOP candidate that wins.
02:30Well, anything can happen, of course.
02:32Yeah.
02:32But it comes down to a political machine.
02:34It comes down to muscle and money.
02:36And Gavin Newsom, make no doubt about it, this is his vanity launch.
02:41He is running for president on the taxpayer dime, trying to jig up the maps, basically.
02:47So let's see what happens.
02:49Many of us will go out and oppose this, but it all comes down to the role of the media.
02:55How is this depicted?
02:56And basically, we've already seen with ballot harvesting, mail-in ballots, phony elections already,
03:02basically, the nation is seeing what happens under the so-called party of democracy when
03:10all the rules are thrown out and redrawn in order to basically boost the presidential aspirations
03:16of an egomaniac leading California.
03:20Yeah.
03:20Well, Texas is going for five Republican seats.
03:22It looks like California is going to be going for five Democrat seats to negate what Texas
03:27is doing.
03:27The map hasn't been released yet, so we will be watching to see what happens when it does.
03:32We also want to ask you about Zoran Mamdani in New York, a member of the party that you
03:37used to be a part of.
03:39Yesterday, he was in Staten Island, which is total Trump country, went plus 30 for Trump
03:45this past election.
03:46But he is on an anti-Trump tour, and he made these comments about immigration.
03:51Listen here.
03:51So on this tour across New York City, each and every borough, as we stand against the
04:00Trump administration's attacks on the very fabric of the place we call home, we also
04:05lay out what our vision will look like.
04:07It is not enough to fight against authoritarianism.
04:10What are you also fighting for?
04:14We are fighting to keep this city a sanctuary city.
04:18Okay, so that's what it sounded like.
04:21There were also protests and boos, because like I said, this is a Trump-friendly portion
04:25of New York City.
04:26But as somebody that does have real insight into the Democrat Party, how do you view Mamdani?
04:32Do you think that most Democrats, and I understand that the party is a big tent, so there's a lot
04:36of different perspectives.
04:37But overall, do you think that they view the rise of Mamdani with concern?
04:42Are they enthusiastic about what he might bring to the party?
04:45Right now, there is an ad out targeting 25 vulnerable Democrats that Republicans just released
04:50trying to tie those Democrats to him.
04:52So what are your thoughts on him overall?
04:55Well, I never met him.
04:58I was unaware of him when I switched my party.
05:00But basically, this is what we mainstream Democrats have seen, that the Democratic Party has become
05:07a party of the extreme left, of wokeism, of the Democratic Socialists of America, basically
05:14having taken over the Democratic Party.
05:17So I'm not surprised to see this happening in New York.
05:21Increasingly, this is occurring in California at the local levels.
05:24Even here in Los Angeles, there are already plans being made to implement rank check voting
05:30so that basically you can have these kind of very extreme candidates take over with only
05:36a handful of votes.
05:37But I think even more importantly, it shows the fracture of the Democratic Party.
05:42There is no leader within the Democratic Party.
05:44And when there's a void, these extreme voices are going to take over.
05:48And that's what we're seeing in New York.
05:50Once again, I don't see how the Democratic Party comes back.
05:53It will continue to descend into chaos and these types of reactions.
05:58Maybe Mamdani will win.
06:00But ultimately, I think the city will fail because of his leadership.
06:05Wow, yeah.
06:05When there's a void in leadership, the extreme voices take over.
06:08That's an interesting point to note there.
06:11Gloria, thank you so much for joining us.
06:12Former California Senate leader, Gloria Romano, we appreciate it.
06:16I'm Steve Ducey.
06:17I'm Brian Kilmeade.
