Perfect triple threat role for Chichester's Top Hat leading lady

There's something special about the role of Dale Tremont in Top Hat (Chichester Festival Theatre, until Saturday, September 6), says leading lady Lucy St Louis.

00:07to our leading lady from top hat lucy st louis and congratulations it is a fabulous show isn't

00:12it and we were talking about the glamour the elegance that's what it's all about isn't it's

00:17the style that must be lovely to be in the middle of that oh it's just beautiful it transports you

00:24back to a time of just sheer sheer elegance and glamour like we said you know it's it's timeless

00:30and and it's just a time that you remember of that everyone would try so hard to even just walking

00:40down the street to just get a coffee or everyone would make the effort to just look absolutely

00:45fabulous and i feel like the show really really transcends out to the audience the glamour

00:52the beauty of that time and the costumes the art deco feel across the whole stage all the details and

01:01you know that's what's been so beautifully done i think and why audiences are mesmerized and keep

01:07coming back is because there's so much detail to see within the show whether it's the set the costumes

01:14um the dancing the singing there is so so many layers to this show um and i think that really

01:23hits our audiences and brings out this talking about the layers for the show you're saying from

01:29your own particular point of view it's rare for a leading lady to be allowed to be the full triple

01:34threat which you are yeah you've got a lot haven't you yeah a hundred percent like for for for any

01:42leading player within a show it is very rare to be able to dominate in all three elements on stage

01:51dancing singing and acting a lot of leads now in shows you know you're heavily featured in acting

01:58or maybe singing but to have the dancing up there as well um and to be really fronting in all three

02:07elements is is quite a rarity so this is why it's such an amazing role for um a leading actor to be able to

02:17play and get their kind of teeth into because they can really use all their training um that's the fact

02:24there's something really appealing about that character isn't that say that again sorry plus

02:31the fact there is something really appealing about the character oh a hundred percent a hundred percent

02:37dale tremont is just a joy of a of a role to play eight shows a week um she goes on such a journey

02:45such a journey um and i and i think that is such a wonderful thing as an actor firstly to be able to

02:53get my teeth into but then her songs and the emotion um that she gets to be able to portray out on stage

03:03every night is just wonderful she you know the journey is a really beautiful roller coaster of a

03:10journey but it's great to be able to play and then to add the dancing element on top is just it's it's just

03:17it's so wonderful and i think our audiences have really connected with the fact that we're able to

03:23do all of those things on stage you know we've got an incredible ensemble that are completely

03:31dominating the style and the era and the glamour every night i've got an incredible leading man

03:37next to me who absolutely shines on stage every night with his skills of tapping and acting and singing

03:45um everyone in this show no matter what part you are whether it's being ensemble to being a lead

03:54are all star players because everyone is bringing such high quality work throughout the show and even the

04:05smallest of nuances that the ensemble do they're all really thought out and they come across as being

04:14leading leads in this show we are all leading this show together really and i think that is such a

04:19beautiful thing we're all very much a team and that radiates on and off stage um and yeah i think our

04:28audiences have really connected to that and then the way that then the show is portrayed in the space

04:35everyone gets an incredible viewpoint of the show so this is really wonderful um and i can confirm that

04:45from the audience point of view congratulations on it yeah yeah from the audience point of view oh that's

04:50great thank you yeah i'm i'm really pleased and it feels so wonderful to be here and be a part of this

04:57show now in this theater and to have had this amazing welcome um and with people coming back

05:04multiple times to come and see the show like i it's pretty tricky to try and get a ticket i actually

05:11tried to get a single ticket for a matinee next week and it's nearly sold out so pretty much sold out

05:19and i managed to just about get one ticket um but it's it's really hard now so you know if you're lucky

05:27enough to come and see us it's um you're going to have the most wonderful amazing joyful beautiful

05:33night so yeah that's it well really lovely to speak to you and congratulations on the show
