00:00everyone welcome back to our channel today sonia and i are diving into some fascinating facts about
00:13what we humans do and why we do it you know sometimes our own minds are the biggest mystery
00:19right absolutely deepak it's like we feel we know ourselves but then we do things that don't always
00:23make sense i'm super curious about today's topic it's very relatable let's start with something
00:28almost everyone does procrastination why do we keep postponing things even when we know they're
00:33important and will just stress us out later oh my god this is my life i always tell myself i'll do
00:38it tomorrow but then tomorrow never really comes or it just becomes more stressful what's the
00:43psychology behind this so one theory is called present bias our brains are wired to prioritize
00:48immediate gratification doing something fun now feels better than doing a chore that will pay off
00:53later plus sometimes the task just feels too big and our brain tries to protect us from that feeling
01:00of overwhelm by pushing it away that makes so much sense it's like the brain is trying to be kind but
01:05actually it's just creating more trouble for us okay deepak here's a weird one i experience my phone
01:11vibrates in my pocket i check it and there's no notification does that happen to you too aha yes all
01:16the time that's actually a known psychological phenomenon called phantom vibration syndrome our
01:21brains are so attuned to our phones now that even a slight sensation like clothes rustling gets
01:27interpreted as a phone vibration it shows how much our phones have become an extension of ourselves
01:32wow that's crazy our brains are literally anticipating these notifications it's a bit surprising actually
01:37how dependent we've become here's another interesting one why do so many of us enjoy listening to sad
01:43music even when we're feeling down it seems counterintuitive right yeah that's something i never fully
01:47understood people say to listen to happy songs but sometimes a good sad song just hits different
01:52why is that psychologists suggest a few reasons one is that sad music can evoke feelings of nostalgia
01:58and empathy it also helps us process our own emotions giving us a sense of catharsis it's like the music
02:04understands what you're going through it makes you feel less alone that's so true it's like a form of
02:09emotional release sometimes you just need to feel those emotions fully and sad music helps with that
02:14here's a slightly strange one have you ever noticed people sometimes choosing the harder path
02:18even when an easier option is available interesting like someone might take a longer more scenic route
02:23when they're in a hurry i don't know usually we look for shortcuts only sometimes it's about a need for
02:28control or the feeling of accomplishment when we choose the harder path and succeed the reward feels
02:34greater it's also linked to our self-perception and how we want to be seen as resilient or capable
02:39that's a deep insight so it's not always about efficiency but about what makes us feel good
02:44about ourselves and these were just a few glimpses into the fascinating world of human psychology
02:49our minds are truly incredible full of surprises absolutely deepak it really makes you think about
02:55why we do the things we do we hope you all found these facts as interesting as we did if you enjoyed
