At least three killed as European wildfires threaten the evacuation of thousands

Wildfires in Greece, Albania, Spain, Portugal and Italy have caused widespread damage. At least two people have been killed and thousands face evacuation.

00:00Wildfires across Europe are causing massive damage and the evacuation of thousands as a heatwave
00:07scorches the southern part of the continent. Firefighters battled to control wildfires on
00:13the outskirts of Greece's third largest city of Patras. Seven major wildfires forced multiple
00:20evacuations, destroying homes and businesses. High winds hindered firefighting efforts on nearby
00:27islands where authorities were on standby to evacuate tourist resorts. Other severe fires
00:34burned in the western part of Greece's mainland and on the island of Hyos.
00:42In bordering Albania, wildfires burned forests, houses and killed at least one person. Several
00:49villages have been evacuated as the wildfires continue to affect parts of the country.
00:55Police say around 30 fires are endangering residents and burning forest areas.
01:01Albanian officials say they mobilized around a thousand firefighters,
01:05army personnel and local staff to fight the flames.

02:04blazing since Friday. Planes dropped water over the flames hundreds of times to contain the wildfire.
02:09Europe is warming faster than any other continent, according to the EU Copernicus Institute.
02:14And wildfires have massively impacted the continent over the summer.
