More than 100 people gathered in Werris Creek on Wednesday, August 13, to honour rail workers who have died in service. Video by Peter Hardin

00:00New South Wales Training has been privileged to partner with TrackSafe for another year to pay tribute to our rail workers.
00:09It's an important event that recognises that we would not be here without our people.
00:14This monument is such an important monument.
00:17Four and a half thousand lives have been lost since those early 1800s on their railways
00:24and each of them are memorialised on this.
00:27It's an enormous piece of research and work.
00:30And while we have to look back and remember and commemorate the loss of those who we loved so dearly and cared for
00:38and the trauma and the grief from that loss lasts a lifetime for those left behind.
00:43This is the occasion.
00:46And as I look around here today...
00:48Whereas Creek is a proud railway town, no doubt about that,
00:52one with rich history and keeping our state and our nation strong.
00:56It comes with great stories of dedication and sadly moments of tragedy.
01:02And today we honour the four and a half thousand rail workers who have died in service to the nation's rail network
01:07and we stand in solidarity with families and friends and workmates left behind.
01:13And Renee, we think of you and your family today and we stand with you and share your sorrow.
01:18And thank you for coming along today and we are with you every step of the way we remember Troy.
