00:00The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is in the process of filing a diplomatic protest over China's dangerous maneuvers of the Scarborough Shoal earlier this week.
00:13This was revealed by DFA Secretary Maria Teresa Lazzaro during the ceremonial signing of the exchange of notes on the entry into force of the Philippines-Japan Reciprocal Access Agreement on Tuesday, August 12.
00:27The DFA said that while they are in the process of filing the protest, they have yet to summon the Chinese ambassador to the Philippines over the matter.
00:37Prior to this, a Philippine Coast Guard vessel evaded a water cannon attack of a China Coast Guard ship, which collided with a Chinese Navy warship during a deployment mission for Filipino fishermen on Monday, August 11.
00:50Lazzaro maintained that the Philippines has to be more careful and aims to go back to the process whereby diplomatic dialogue and discussions will be best for the situation.
01:02She also reiterated that both parties need to strictly adhere to the 1972 International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea and the 1974 Safety of Life at Sea Convention.
01:14Meanwhile, foreign envoys like Japan, Denmark, and the European Union were deeply concerned and called out China's aggression.
