The Philippines will continue to defend and assert its rights and jurisdiction in the Scarborough (Panatag) Shoal despite insistent claims of territorial rights by China, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

00:09despite insisting claims of territorial rights by China, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday, August 12.
00:19In a statement of the August 11 incident at the Bajo de Masimloc,
00:23the DFA said it was seriously concerned by the dangerous maneuvers of the vessels of People's Liberation Army Navy and the China Coast Guard.
00:34It was also alarmed about their illegal disruption of a humanitarian mission for Filipino fishermen in the waters of Bajo de Masimloc.
00:44The DFA said that the Philippines will openly assert and protect its sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction in accordance with international law.
00:55The DFA also reaffirmed the country's stand in addressing differences through diplomacy and dialogue
01:02following President Marcus' directive to handle the West Philippine Sea issue constructively and resolve disputes peacefully.
