Halesowen mum Alex Perry explains the virtual ward

Russell's Hall hospital runs a remote  virtual ward   for  children so they can be treated at home.

00:00I'm Alex Perry and this is Mabel Perry and this is what we were given to monitor Mabel

00:05on the virtual ward. So it comes with this iPad which says good morning Mabel Perry

00:12and you have to upload the observations on this device. So this connects through like

00:18this sticky plaster onto their foot usually. Mabel kept trying to kick hers off so we had

00:25to put this on top of it but you turn this on and sort of tell you all the things so it gives you

00:32sort of their heart rate and their oxygen levels. Obviously it's just going to beep because it's

00:36not attached to her but on there it gives you sort of their SpO2 so that's what we were monitoring

00:42for Mabel and then their BPM which is their heart rate and it gives you lots of other things as

00:47well. There's also a temperature monitor on the back so you scan their head and it gives you their

00:52temperature but it's really really easy to use and then you just go on to there and upload the

00:58observations so you go on to the 24 hour one and then it asks you questions so paediatric RSV was

01:10what Mabel was on but she had bronchiolitis and then it just you upload what it's asked you so

01:17feet per minute, the heart rate, I'm just going to skip these because obviously I haven't done it,

01:21are oxygen levels and then it asks you some questions on there as well. So it will say

01:25is it the chest recession, is she grunting, what's the like capillary refill which is when you hold

01:31your thumb down on their skin. So yeah and then makes you, makes everybody look after you and

01:38monitor you and we can do it from home so it was amazing.
