00:00Welcome to the press conference, the presentation of Pervis Estupignan.
00:06We will be asking him questions right away.
00:10Hello Pervis, you're an Ecuador international and you had some contact with Italy a few years ago with Udinese.
00:24You know Italian football.
00:26In your career, watching Milan from a distance, what have you noticed?
00:33Have you had any kind of, when you've been here in Milan, what have you noticed about the club?
00:40Hello everybody.
00:45Exactly, as you say, I had the chance to sign for Watford and I got a chance to know Mr. Pozzo, the president of Udinese in Watford.
01:06But I didn't really have a good chance to play for Udinese because of an administration situation.
01:15But not just in Ecuador, in the whole world, everyone says, everyone knows AC Milan, everyone knows this historical club.
01:30I haven't had the chance to really get to know Milan yet, but I know who the previous players have been at this club.
01:37In Ecuador, there are lots of fans of Milan.
01:40It's always been a magnificent club that has won lots of big trophies.
01:45I'm really happy to be here, finally, because I've worked, I've worked very hard for a long time in my career to reach the level of a club like Milan.
01:55You landed just after the match against Liverpool in Hong Kong and you travelled with the team to Australia, Hong Kong.
02:13Then you watched the game against Leeds and actually participated in the match against Leeds.
02:20Do you feel you're getting into your best conditions physically and getting into good shape?
02:29I was talking the other day about this with Milan's athletic conditioning coach.
02:40I arrived in Hong Kong and then straight into the action.
02:48It was quite intense.
02:49I've always been in all my clubs.
02:53I've always been a physical style player and I always try and stay in good condition even during the summer break so I can be in very good shape for the beginning of the season.
03:06And I'm in good condition thanks to this care I take of myself.
03:12I want to be in great shape for the first match.
03:16I feel in good condition.
03:18I can't wait to play at San Siro in the first weekend, the first Sunday of the season and I want to make the fans happy and give the fans some joy.
03:27Your family are here with you.
03:31I want to know what does it mean to you and your family to move to Italy, to move to Milan with your loved ones and what's it like?
03:43What are your experiences of these first few days as a Milan player?
03:46Well, when we found out that Milan were interested in signing me, it was a really emotional moment for me and my family.
04:05This news was fabulous. I shared it with my wife, with my children, the rest of my family. We were really happy.
04:13My parents live in America, so do my brothers. So it was great news for everyone.
04:19All these people who have believed in me, I always dreamt of arriving at this point.
04:27And I'm really, really happy to have these people by my side, not just professionally, but in a personal, in a family sense.
04:36I've got a great chance now. It's a dream that's become reality, and we're all really happy.
04:43The last few years, Teo Hernandez has played in the position that you've taken at Milan.
04:55How do you feel about taking over from Teo Hernandez? Do you feel a responsibility in taking that role and going after Teo Hernandez?
05:13Well, everyone knows that Teo is an excellent player, Teo Hernandez. He's got good feet and he's spent his time with Milan and he left his mark.
05:32I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on what he did for Milan, but now it's my turn.
05:38Now it's my moment and I'm really happy to be here to play in that role.
05:43I can't wait to get on the pitch and get on that wing, that flank.
05:49I will work really hard to show to everyone that I'm good enough to pay back the faith Milan have demonstrated in me.
06:01I can't wait. I can't wait to play in front of the fans and hopefully make the fans happy and give them some joy.
06:10I work hard and I want to contribute just my small contribution, but hopefully it will make a big impact.
06:19And it's one of my objectives. I'm really happy to have finally arrived and really happy to wear this shirt.
06:29The number two, the number that that Cafu wore for Milan.
06:35I want to get off to a good start. I want to get off on the right foot and I want to really represent the Milan shirt as well as possible.
06:48In the Premier League with Brighton, you worked with Roberto De Zerbi and you developed a lot in that season.
06:56How important was the Italian manager for you in your career and how was it working with Roberto De Zerbi in England?
07:10The first thing he did was to teach me Italian and help me understand Italian.
07:19I don't speak Italian yet, but with him I began, I was able to understand a few bits.
07:25When you are speaking to me in Italian, I understand because De Zerbi spoke with me in Italian.
07:34Well, I'm really happy to have worked with Mr. De Zerbi. He's a great manager and he helped us develop.
07:46He helped us a lot and he really helped me develop. There were two excellent seasons and I recall them with a lot of pleasure.
07:55My adventure at Brighton had lots of positive moments, a few less positive, but I will remember the best.
08:02I focus on the best parts and he had great human qualities and tactically and technically he was very good too.
08:11And everything I learned at Brighton, I'll try and put into practice here in Milan.
08:20A tactical question. What is the boss, Mr. Allegri, asking you, asking from you?
08:30What is your, in your view, your best role? Attacking full back or do you prefer playing in a back four or do you prefer playing in midfield?
08:39As you know, one of my characteristics is defending, but also attacking, moving up the pitch.
08:58I like, I like to work with the midfielders and the attackers on the pitch.
09:04But at the moment, I'm waiting to see what Mr. Allegri will ask from me.
09:09If we play with a four man defense, I won't stay back alone only.
09:15I will get forward and try and help out the attackers.
09:19But I can also play in a back three, but I can play on the entire wing.
09:29I found it's a really good group here at Milan and looking forward to this new adventure with my new teammates.
09:35Everyone's really motivated to reach, to achieve great things.
09:41Returning to defending in a back four. In a back four, I know how I can defend well, but I also like to get forward.
09:48I know that in Italian football, if you defend in a back four, you have to cover all the gaps and all the spaces.
09:56In 2016, your manager was Claudio Borghi. Claudio Borghi played for Milan and President Silvio Berlusconi was interested in signing Claudio Borghi many years ago.
10:14But Rijkaard arrived. Did you know this?
10:17Yes, I worked. I played under Claudio Borghi in Quito.
10:28We didn't have a lot of time together. We didn't chat about Milan.
10:34But I can tell you that the few moments, the time we had together, I learned a lot from him.
10:42He was very good at the Rabona.
10:46He taught us fullbacks, how to cross or how to improve our crosses.
10:51It was great to work with him briefly.
10:58Back to the left wing, where Raphael Eao will be ahead of you.
11:04For years, it was one of Milan's strong points.
11:09Maybe one of the best, one of the best in Europe maybe at certain points.
11:13Then there was a drop off.
11:15You will be on the same side as Raphael Eao.
11:18How do you think your connection with Raphael Eao will be?
11:23Yes, I'm ready. I'm ready. I can't wait.
11:35We all know, we all know how, what the qualities of Raphael Eao are, his qualities.
11:43And I'm really excited and motivated to play with him.
11:47I will try and give my best.
11:52At the same time, playing with Raphael Eao on the same wing makes me even more motivated because I want to help him.
12:02The idea of playing with him really gives me positive feelings.
12:09When I first met him, we smiled and he saluted me.
12:12And I could tell when he smiled that we'd have a good connection and I can't wait to get on the pitch and play with him, to exchange passes with him, to connect, link with him.
12:23What's it like working with Massimiliano Allegri?
12:32And what do you think you can improve in your own style and game?
12:44You made a good impression against Leeds.
12:46When do you think we'll see the best of you?
12:49The first impact that I had with Mr. Allegri, he's a pleasant person.
13:04He likes to joke around with the players.
13:06But when it's time to work, naturally, he's very serious.
13:11When it's time to get down to business, he's a serious person.
13:17The other thing you asked, yeah, well, I can.
13:20I developed a lot in the Premier League in the last few years in terms of assists and creating goals.
13:28I had good figures for scoring goals.
13:32I try and score goals.
13:34I will try and score goals here in Italy and also my assists.
13:38That's why I'm happy.
13:40I'm looking forward to being here.
13:41I want to do well and I want to have good statistics for numbers, for goals and for assists.
13:49I don't just want to defend.
13:50I want to make important goals.
13:53You spoke about the number two shirt as worn by Cafu previously.
14:04Lots of other great players for Milan have worn the number two as well.
14:08Most recently it was Davide Calabria.
14:10In your career you've never worn the number two.
14:13This is the first time.
14:15Was there a reason for this choice?
14:17And the second question, De Zerbi defined you as one of the best fullbacks in the world in the past.
14:25And he said when you improve your passing, you'll be one of the best in the world.
14:35What do you think you need to improve to become one of the best in the world?
14:46Well, starting with the shirt, number two.
14:50Lots of players, as you said, wore this number for Milan and they have had important, they've achieved important things.
15:00I chose it because before signing, I heard wonderful words from Cafu talking about me.
15:08And I thought, well, I'm going to thank him and pay tribute to him by choosing his number.
15:14He showed a lot of faith in me and he said very nice things about me.
15:21I played two seasons with Roberto De Zerbi as a manager.
15:27The Premier League is a very intense championship.
15:31It's different to the Spanish league where I came from.
15:34The Spanish league is a bit more passive, maybe.
15:38In the English, in the Premier League, the ball moves a lot.
15:43You have to run a lot.
15:44It's a physical championship.
15:47Roberto noticed that I needed to improve my distribution and passing.
15:53And I did lots of exercises to improve my passing.
15:57And I have improved thanks to Roberto De Zerbi.
16:02But you can always develop.
16:07You must never stop learning.
16:09You can always improve.
16:10And I would try and do that.
