00:29I think the players gave everything.
00:32Playing against one of the best teams in the world,
00:35maybe the best at the moment.
00:38And I think we, 75-80 minutes, perfect.
00:42Almost giving nothing away against,
00:45they put four players with unbelievable individual quality on the pitch.
00:50So, very, very proud of them, yeah.
00:57Hi, Thomas. Commiserations on the result.
01:00When did you decide to use that formation,
01:02and what did you do with the players to help them adapt to it?
01:05Probably decided that on the day after, I guess, the Bayern game.
01:17It was already, I knew that we had to do something a little bit different against PSG.
01:24So, it was like a, it was a special operation.
01:29And it was medical terms, the operation succeeded but the patient died.
01:35So, it was not that good in the end.
01:39But no, so we worked on a game plan that was a little bit different.
01:42And very, very close to succeed.
01:45Hi, Frank. It's Boris from Antenna5.
01:48I mean, losing on penalties is a roulette.
01:51The cruelest of ways of losing a final.
01:54And you had your chance, you know, because they missed the first penalty.
01:58If you can comment on the emotion going through the penalty shootout.
02:02And if you can confirm for us why didn't Brennan Johnson play?
02:06I mean, was he injured or was it tactical?
02:08First, I agree. It's down to the smallest of margins in the penalty shootout.
02:12It's like a flip of a coin.
02:14First, I would like to thank all the players who stepped up and were brave
02:19and took the responsibility to take a penalty.
02:23And Brennan Johnson, no, no, he was not injured.
02:28He just, you know, decided to play with two strikers with different types.
02:34So, he could have come on instead of Matissell, of course.
02:38But, yeah, just different.
02:42Hi, Thomas. After such a good 18 minutes, what sort of went wrong in the last 10 minutes?
02:46Do you think it was sort of a physical thing or more a mental thing?
02:51I wish I knew.
02:53I think sometimes football is the smallest of the margins.
03:00You know, they kept pushing, made some sops that put us under pressure at times.
03:10But it's a shot from the edge of the box.
03:13That's basically the first goal.
03:15Besides that, before that, we didn't concede really any big chances.
03:19I think it was one save from Vic where he needed to save it.
03:23And then the momentum built it.
03:27But, again, then they score.
03:30Of course, they have some crosses, some situations.
03:32But, you know, you need to dig deep.
03:34But it's basically the next chance.
03:36It's not like they have three big chances before the goal is scored.
03:39So, small margins, small margins.
03:42Hi, Thomas.
03:43Did tonight show in one sense you can compete with PSG and also in another sense that the squad needs more work to be able to do it for 90 minutes and for longer periods?
03:53I think if you played 2-2 against PSG, I think you'd take that.
03:59So, I think that single result is good.
04:02Then, if you then separate, then you have a penalty shootout, we lost.
04:06So, maybe we need to work on penalties.
04:08Maybe that's the thing to win a final.
04:11I think if everyone has said this will be a draw and we will do some penalties, everyone would think, oh, that's quite impressive.
04:19And then if you look into the performance we actually put in and the shift the players put in, wow, wow, what a mentality throughout the game.
04:28So, a lot of things to be happy with.
04:33Hi, Thomas.
04:34Just building on that, putting in 70-80 minutes like they did so early in your tenure, that kind of running, that kind of intensity and effort and also execution.
04:46Is that the standard now that they've got to keep?
04:49Hopefully.
04:51I would say, hopefully, the intensity and aggressivity in the pressure and in the defending and the foundation and the mentality to run hard, that need to be the foundation every single time.
05:08Then sometimes you succeed very well, other times you need to do a little bit better.
05:12I think that was good. I think another thing that was very positive was the set pieces.
05:16Obviously, we knew there was an area where we couldn't hurt.
05:20PSG worked very hard on it.
05:22So, big credit to the players and almost gave us a win.
05:27Hello, Thomas.
05:28You drifted onto it in the last answer actually, but I wanted to ask you if you could expand on the details that you did like in the first 60 minutes and whether that is what we should expect from your team.
05:39I think one thing is, as I said, it was a little bit special operation because it was clearly we went in spells a little bit more direct because we knew that we could hurt them there.
05:54Big, big focus on the set pieces from all areas of the pitch.
06:01But we will have focus on set pieces no matter what.
06:03I think the high pressure is non-negotiable when we went man-man all over the pitch in quite a few good times.
06:11So, those bits, that will be a standard.
06:16Final question, please.
06:18Good evening, coach.
06:20Rex Elmayer, Czech Republic.
06:21There was a chance for you to win the first European Trophy as a coach.
06:25And how does today's fair affect you?
06:29Because I read some opinions on that, that Super Cup doesn't really matter at the start of the season.
06:37Thank you so much.
06:38I think every game matters.
06:40I think if you look on the face of the players and all of us, we are hugely disappointed.
06:49I have this, my rule is 24 hours.
06:51I can be disappointed for 24 hours and we want to compete in a lot of different tournaments.
06:56And if you do that, then you need to be ready to do a quick turnaround and go again.
07:02And I'll make sure the players and I are ready coming flying out on Saturday.
