00:00Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome along to the press conference of Luka Modric.
00:07We'll start with the questions. Simone Nobilini, Milan TV.
00:13Thank you, Ilaria. Good afternoon, Luka.
00:19How did you spend your holidays? What's Luka Modric looking like at the start of your time at Milan?
00:26And what have you made of your teammates in the pre-season tour, which has just finished?
00:33Thank you. I was like three weeks off and it was actively rest.
00:44I was trained to come in better shape as possible.
00:49And yes, I watched two first games against Arsenal and against Liverpool.
00:57And I see a lot of positive things with the team, with the players.
01:04And hopefully it will just continue the same way, growing as a team.
01:10And I'm looking forward to see them, everyone, and start training with them.
01:15Pepe Di Stefano, Sky Sport.
01:19Ciao, Luka. Benvenuto.
01:22Hi, Luka.
01:25A couple of questions.
01:27Do you still have time to get excited at this stage of your career?
01:32And secondly, go back to your childhood.
01:37Can you give us a memory of your childhood as a Milan player and what it was like as a Milan fan?
01:46Yes, it's still no matter of age, you still have time to get emotional and recently I had a very emotional day of my farewell with Real Madrid.
02:00And yeah, it's no matter of age, you can get emotional.
02:05And about other questions, yeah, I grew up as a kid watching Italian football and Milan for me was a favorite team in Italy.
02:20And Milan in Croatia was very popular.
02:25And yeah, also because of my idol, Zvonimir Boban, who did great things in Milan, I follow Milan and I always had a special affection for Milan.
02:39Hi, Luka, welcome to the club.
02:46In your first Milan interview, you said that Milan are not a team that should settle for average seasons and they should compete with the best teams in the world.
02:58So what is Luka Modric's aim with Milan for this new season?
03:02Yeah, I said this because we all remember Milan is and was one of the best clubs in the world.
03:17They won seven European titles and that's what I mean in this aspect to not only be satisfied with it's enough to qualify for Champions League.
03:28Of course, this has to be minimum for Milan standards, how I remember and how I see Milan.
03:37But of course, you have to be humble, work hard, but Milan deserve to be at the highest levels possible.
03:45And this is also my goal.
03:49I am the guy who likes to win, who is very competitive and this is what I want to bring to the team.
04:02And the goal has to be, like I said, minimum Champions League, but Milan has to also fight for trophies and that's why I came here.
04:11I want to win trophies with Milan and this is my goal and has to be with in all clubs, with all people that are involved in Milan,
04:24but from point of humility and working hard and to create strong, strong group.
04:33This is the key that you, if you want to have success.
04:38Luca, what do you think you can give to Milan and what do you make of Serie A in terms of the level?
04:56What I can give is my experience, I can work hard, give everything, to do things that I did in other clubs, beginning from Bosnia, Croatia, then England, then Spain.
05:23This is, I just need to do what I did in those clubs and help in every possible way.
05:35I know that there are huge expectations from me and I'm ready for it.
05:42I'm looking forward for the challenge and I hope I'm going to be on the top of it.
05:48And Italian league, I follow a lot because there are many Croatian players who play always in Italy and I had some friends that played here and I always like to watch Italian football.
06:04And what you can see that league is very competitive and it's coming back on the time that Italy was one of the strongest league, if not the strongest league in the world.
06:18And you see that teams are very tactically organized and this is what is maybe a bit different from Spain and I will need to adapt as quick as possible on the way of football that is played in Italy.
06:40Francesco Rocchi, Rai Sport.
06:43Hi Luca, welcome to Milan.
06:52I'm sure you know Italian football, I know that Boban was your idol, but has he given you any advice?
07:01Have you spoken to any other Milan legends?
07:04Have you spoken to Zlatan Ibrahimovic?
07:06Has anyone spoken to you about the club?
07:08What to expect?
07:10Yes, I speak with some people, with Boban, now not, but in how we have good relationship, we used to talk a lot about Milan when we would be together.
07:23Last time I met Zlatan here and he also told me some things about Milan.
07:30Carlo, who used to be my coach, he told me the best things about Milan, all positive and yeah, even I had this impression without other people telling me you could see that Milan is a great club, huge club and with great fans.
07:56With great fans and but when these kind of people that are legends of this club tells you, you get even better perspective of what kind of club is this because last time when I came here I could feel it.
08:14The level of organization and the people how they welcome me here, it's for me was really, really impressive and I am grateful for this.
08:30Andrea Ramazzotti, Gazzetta dello Sport.
08:34Nice to see you, Luca.
08:38In June 2017, you won one of your many Champions League titles, you were up against the Juventus side that were coached by Massimiliano Allegri.
08:50How do you think you can get him to forgive you when you see him at Milan?
09:02Probably it's not good memory for him but I will try not to mention this game for him because I don't want him to be mad on me.
09:16No, I am just looking forward to meet the mister, I spoke with him a little bit and I am happy that I am going to be coached by him, he is one of the greatest coaches in the world.
09:38He is a winner and I am looking forward to see what he expects from me and how he sees me in this team.
09:50Federico Mazini, Tutto Sport.
09:53Hi, Luca. Welcome to the club. A number of people say that one of your main goals is to be involved in the World Cup, which there will be at the end of the season with Croatia.
10:05Do you think this season could be your last dance or could we expect you to spend a longer spell at the club than perhaps your one-year contract suggests?
10:16I don't know, it's too early to say. Yes, my goal is obviously to play with Croatia in the World Cup next year, but we need to qualify, we start well.
10:31And let's see. I don't look that much in the future. I like to stay in the present and be in the moment and do things right now, not to think what's going to happen in, I don't know, ten months or one year.
10:49That's why I just want to start this new adventure and prepare myself well to be on the level that this club asks you to be.
11:07And what's going to happen in the future, we will have time to speak about it, but I just need to be focused on now and to prepare myself as best possible and to give my best and everything for Milan.
11:25Antonio Vitiello, Corriere dello Sport.
11:28Hi Luca, welcome to Milan. Could you talk to us about the negotiations when the sporting director Glitare went to Croatia to speak to you face to face?
11:44I know that you were pleased about him travelling to meet you and could you talk us through how you decided to opt for Milan as opposed to the other offers that are on the table?
11:57Yeah, it was, for me, in my head was easy choice when Milan showed up and when sporting director Glitare called me and when he came to Croatia.
12:11This for me was something very important and it showed how much they want me and how much they still believe in me that I can play on the highest level.
12:24And for me, this was, let's say, maybe key moment for me because when someone come to try to sign you or something, you expect that they come to speak with you, explain you the project and what they expect from you.
12:42And for me was very important and I'm thankful for this.
12:46And yeah, after I needed sometimes to speak with my family, with my closest people.
12:58But deep inside I knew that this is the best choice and that this is what I want.
13:05It came very quickly after my last game with Madrid.
13:10I didn't expect maybe that it's going to come really quickly but it's just showed, again, I'm repeating how they wanted me and how they trust in me and I hope I can repay this trust on the pitch.
13:25Andrea Sereni, La Repubblica.
13:32Hi, Luca. You said that you still need to speak to Allegri about your position on the pitch.
13:39but where would you like to play as a deep line playmaker as a number eight if you already thought
13:45about that and talk us through your emotions about being the 13th player in Milan history
13:52to have won the Ballon d'Or how excited are you about that yeah like I told you before we spoke
14:01a bit but I think everyone knows where I feel the most comfortable on the pitch it's in the middle
14:09of the park where I can organize the team and I can make teams plays plays well and but again like
14:19I told you I need to speak with mister to see what he expects from me how he see me where he
14:24wants me to to play and from from there I just need to to work hard and to give my best to
14:37to to play well and to to help the team to have to play well and to have results but middle position that
14:48I play all my life that I used to play in Real Madrid this is where I feel most comfortable but
14:54again I used to play some other position in midfield and I am open for everything to to have
15:04exchange opinions and it's the most important to is the team for me always was not individual it's always
15:14the team is the most important and well that's has to be our mentality and there is no player about the
15:22team and only all together we can achieve good things and that's why when I speak with mister I'm just
15:30there to to to do what he wants me to do Luca Mignani il giorno ciao Luca
15:41you said that you've watched Milan in the first few preseason friendlies what struck you most about
15:49the squad itself
15:56like I told you I saw many positive things but it's just preseason games and it's difficult to judge
16:03on on preseason games but like I said there is many top players and the system that we can use on the pitch
16:19this is up to mister how he wants us to to play but I see I saw very very good team it seems what I saw also
16:30that is very good uh ambience uh in the team between the players and this is this is the
16:37also uh important thing when you want to create strong group and yeah I don't want to mention
16:46anyone in particular by names but there is so so many top top players in in in this team
16:52let's go back to television with sport italia hi Luca welcome to Milan I'm curious about something
17:03I don't know whether you're aware of this but apart from Real Madrid the only team in world football
17:09that's uh apart from Real Madrid only Milan have won more champions leagues than you because you've won
17:16six champions leagues and something else Milan have this magic whereby things come in cycles
17:29Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the last player to win a trophy in his 40s he came back and won the Scudetto
17:35is that a goal of yours a dream of yours ahead of next summer
17:38yes I knew that for this that uh Milan has seven champions league and is the uh club that won most
17:51after Real Madrid and I of course I knew this and it just says about size of the club and yeah hopefully
18:00can happen the same like it happened with with Zlatan when he arrived with 40 and they won Scudetto
18:06hopefully it can happen same next year I would be more than happy if this if this can be like
18:17if it can happen you know but let's see
18:25hi Luca welcome to the club I'd like to ask you the following with regards to a winning Milan side
18:34you you come in from uh Real Madrid uh Florentino Perez's Real Madrid side but you were linked to Milan
18:43when they were under Berlusconi and Adriano Gagliani talking about Adriano Gagliani they're talking about
18:48him coming back to the club he's a winner have you ever spoken to him would you like to work with
18:54Gagliani as well during your time at Milan no I uh I know I didn't speak with him I know he was part of
19:07of the group that did amazing things with Milan but this is the only thing I can say I didn't speak with
19:15him about about Milan and yeah but what he did with uh with Silvio Berlusconi and this group of people
19:26was was amazing Milan was one of the strongest club in the in the world and yeah but I didn't speak with
19:34him I heard that you said you spoken to Carlo Ancelotti about Milan he said something to you
19:49you weren't very specific about that could you tell us something that he actually told you about Milan
19:54that didn't necessarily convince you because maybe you were already convinced but it pushed you a lot
19:59more towards uh saying that's the right club for me no we just spoke in general about Milan uh about
20:11the club about the people about the San Siro and about how expectations are are high like in Real Madrid
20:20and that is there is a lot of pressure and everything but it's it was not this main
20:29point that makes me sign here no I I already I knew that I want to do this but we spoke just
20:38about general things but it was not the most important because I I I I knew what I wanted to do
20:49Cosimo Bartoloni Cronica di Spogliatoio Cronica di Spogliatoio Hi Luca welcome to the club
20:54earlier on we were talking about your passion for Milan during your childhood I found an interview
21:02that you gave to the Gazzetta dello Sport in 2020 thinking about Milan you said you were disappointed
21:09to see that this club wasn't at the peak of its powers then they won the Scudetto since then they've
21:15won the Scudetto in the Italian Super Cup they've been into the Champions League semi-finals but they also
21:20finished in eighth place last season what do you think about this moment in time when you think about
21:27Milan
21:31I have positive feeling okay maybe last year was not was not the best year for for Milan they finish
21:39eight but now it's this is past and you need to learn from it and start working again working hard but I
21:52I have positive feeling and what I saw if you can play like they played against us last year at Bernabeu then
22:07I don't know what was the the problem or issue why they didn't perform like this all year but if you can
22:13play like this like they played against us then you you show that the level is is high high and just now we
22:21need to find this level again that team can perform this way and like I told you very positive
22:30feelings and hopefully we will have great season Christian Pradelli Milan Press
22:38Milan Press hi Luca welcome once again to the club Ivan Rakitic said they don't know how lucky they are
22:47to have them to have him there with them besides the romanticism of the message
22:58it's not every day that an international teammate that's been through so many battles with you write
23:04something like that could you explain to us why we're so fortunate to have you that we haven't necessarily
23:12said so besides the experience that before everyone's eyes in terms of what you've offered
23:18football over the years why might Milan be even more fortunate to have you here at the club
23:30yes Ivan and me are very good friends we have great relationship and he he put some great message
23:39for me and uh and i'm thankful for this uh i am happy to be here also and i'm i'm lucky to be in this
23:50huge club like Milan it is and i'm i'm not taking this for granted this is something huge for me
23:56uh what else i can give uh about apart from passion uh my humility my
24:14working like working ethic uh my simplicity to to be who i am you know this this what i what i bring here i
24:25um i'm i don't see myself like someone uh special or something i don't know what i'm just a normal guy
24:33who likes to play football and i'm uh happy enough to to to play in in huge club like Milan and i'm just
24:43grateful for this opportunity and i'm looking forward to to start this this adventure with uh with lot of
24:51a lot of motivation and uh hopefully it will it will go as i expected as i expect
25:04hi luca welcome to milan
25:08earlier on a colleague was asking about what you can offer to the squad of players it's a different
25:14squad of players because milan have a great history but it's been a tough time i don't think anyone in
25:19the dressing room has won the champions league whereas you come from a dressing room where lots
25:25of players had won the champions league where there were lots of leaders do you feel the responsibility
25:30as the player that's won the most that you need to guide the players and what could change on the
25:35training ground day to day moving from a top class team like real madrid to a team that wants to get
25:42back to the top no it feels it feels great to be to have this opportunity to to help the team to
25:55to do well and but like i said before there is one player cannot do anything alone no matter what's
26:02what's your name forget about it it doesn't exist one just one player without the team and that's what we
26:09need to to create here team and where individuals can you know uh show their their best and to help
26:18the team win this is the for me how i see it how i see it and i'm i'm here to to help to give everything
26:25like i did all my career and uh yeah thank you very much everyone once again welcome to luca modric and
26:35i'd like to remind you that 6 30 at the milan store at the adante who'll meet the fans
