00:00This is the Maserati Gran Cabrio Trofeo.
00:11Maserati has been a little quiet lately.
00:14About seven or eight years ago, they decided to retool the entire brand.
00:18They started with the engine and developed the ultimate V6 twin-turbo engine
00:23that now powers their entire lineup.
00:26The Gran Turismo and the Gran Cabrio, which is the convertible version of the Gran Turismo,
00:31is powered by that same V6 engine.
00:34Also a part of the retooling of the brand is all new design.
00:38Maserati lineup is now the most beautiful that they've ever built.
00:42Flowing supercar lines, big beautiful wheels,
00:46and of course that Maserati Trident that has always been the brand's icon.
00:51The big picture though for Maserati is winning on the race circuit.
00:56You're going to increasingly see the Maserati name on racetracks around the world,
01:01as well as in Formula E.
01:03Maserati has leaned in heavily on Formula E racing,
01:07and that is also going to power its electrification strategy.
01:11The Maserati Gran Cabrio comes in three different versions.
01:15There's a base model, there's the Trofeo, which we are driving,
01:18and there's the Fulgore, which is the all-electric version.
01:21The base model starts at $164,000.
01:25Ours comes in at about $198,000,
01:29and the all-electric starts at $206,000.
01:32The Trofeo is notable for its sport tuning and performance details,
01:37and then of course, in our model, the convertible top.
01:46The Italian heritage of Maserati is seen throughout the Gran Cabrio.
01:50It starts with this beautiful leather.
01:52Leather covers every surface in this car, and it is quite gorgeous.
01:57We have a D-shaped steering wheel here.
01:59It has perforated leather for better grip when you're on the track.
02:02The multimedia system is actually a product of Maserati's parent company, Stellantis.
02:08Several years ago, Stellantis made a huge investment in multimedia systems.
02:13They hired a team of about 70 people, many of whom came from gaming and entertainment,
02:18to develop a really great multimedia system and all the tech interfaces in their cars.
02:24That really shows up in the Maserati Gran Cabrio.
02:28The starter is right here on the steering wheel,
02:31and our drive mode selector is over here.
02:34You can just dial through the different drive modes,
02:38and you'll see things change as you go to Sport or Corsa, which is Italian for track.
02:45On the center screen is where we have this really great tech interface.
02:49It can be customized to a certain degree.
02:52You can actually set the clock to classic, sport, or design,
02:57whichever you prefer, on the iconic center clock, something that every luxury car has.
03:03And this is how we raise or lower the soft top.
03:07So I can just swipe and hold and put the top up.
03:12And it actually gives us a graphic showing us what the car is doing.
03:18Also on this panel, you can set your ambient lighting.
03:22There is an air scarf.
03:23There is actually warm air that comes out of the headrests in the front seats
03:28when the temperature is cold outside.
03:30But if using the multimedia system is too much,
03:33or you just need to keep your hands on the wheel, you can do this.
03:36Hey, Maserati.
03:41Set the cabin temperature to 68 degrees.
03:48I've set the temperature to 68 degrees.
03:51Another very modern feature in the Maserati are these electric door handles.
03:55All you do is push this little button here and the door pops open.
03:59There is an analog door release in case you lose power.
04:02You can pull this to open the door, but it's also electric on the outside.
04:07You just pull the little tab and the door pops open.
04:10One of the most incredible things in the Maserati Gran Turismo or Gran Cabrio, though,
04:15is the Sonus Faber sound system.
04:17It is literally a million dollar sound system.
04:20They build a speaker system that costs $750,000.
04:24The balance of the system is another $250,000.
04:27You can start here with choosing your audio settings.
04:32So you can customize a lot of the settings on the sound system.
04:37And if you decide that you really want to turn up the sound on the Sonus Faber sound system,
04:41the volume control is right here on the back of the steering wheel.
04:45And I can't demonstrate for you how great this is.
04:48You'll have to take a test drive and find out for yourself.
04:50But it does sound like a million dollars.
04:53One of the reasons that racing is so important to Maserati is it's truly in the company's DNA.
04:59In fact, Maserati is the oldest or one of the oldest racing brands in the world.
05:05And Maserati's early engineers actually designed a lot of the technology that's still used in racing today,
05:11including these paddle shifters.
05:14Notice how they're really long and they are attached to the steering column.
05:19These were designed by those engineers who then went on to work at Ferrari
05:23to ensure that wherever the steering wheel is, the paddles are always in the same place, upshift and downshift.
05:34I recently had a chance to drive the entire lineup and will say they are spectacular.
05:39That single engine strategy is a winner.
05:42This is one of the most fun cars on the road.
05:53Start.
05:54diesele to always look after.
05:57Once you've started, shake it away.
05:59Take a high tech wheel to get up åk.
06:02Take a high tech wheelbar.
06:05Take a high tech wheelbar.
06:07Take a high tech wheelbar.
06:18Take a high tech wheelbar.
