During a press briefing on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asked about German Chancellor Friedrich Merz banning the transfer of weapons to Israel that would be used in Gaza.
Transcript
00:00The German Chancellor has once again defended his decision not to send weapons to Israel
00:07which can be used in Gaza.
00:09He said a friendship can and must withstand that.
00:12From your perspective, what has changed in this relationship?
00:15Look, I respect Friedrich Merz.
00:22I think he's been a good friend of Israel, but I think he's buckled under.
00:27He's still under the pressure of false TV reports, the pressure, internal pressure from various groups.
00:36And I can say this, and I don't want to talk about him specifically, but I want to say this.
00:42Look, maybe some choose to forget October 7th, we will not forget what happened.
00:48And we will do whatever it takes to defend our country and defend our people, defend our
00:52future.
00:53We will win the war, with or without the support of others, but I think that there's an issue
01:02here.
01:03And the issue is many leaders tell me, look, we know you're right, but we can't stand,
01:08you know, in the face of the public opinion in our country, especially European leaders.
01:13They tell me that over and over again.
01:16And I say, that is your problem.
01:19It is not our problem.
01:21It is not our problem.
01:24You know?
01:25In Munich, everybody celebrated Munich.
01:29Everybody celebrated the capitulation in Munich, the Munich Peace Conference, peace
01:34in our time.
01:35Okay?
01:36And everybody lambasted Churchill who opposed it.
01:39So what?
01:40The difference now is maybe they thought then that there was a real chance for peace by
01:45succumbing to these, to the Nazis.
01:47But I don't believe anybody seriously thinks that now.
01:50And we're facing neo-Nazis.
01:53You know, Chancellor Mertz's predecessor was here.
02:00Okay?
02:01And on the first or second day of the war, he was there on the first days of the war.
02:06And he told me, he said to me, they're exactly like the Nazis.
02:10And they are.
02:11And we're not going to leave.
02:13We're not going to leave the Nazi, the remainder of the Nazi army, you know, in the equivalent
02:20of Berlin.
02:21Don't go into Berlin and don't finish off the Nazi army, the German army.
02:26Of course not.
02:27I mean, that's what people are telling us to do.
02:29And I'm not going to do it.
02:30And the Israeli people are not going to do it.
02:32We're going to do it.
02:33And we have enough criticism within.
02:35But the majority of the people, if you really check it, the majority of the people say,
02:40that's a result we can't afford if we want to live here.
02:43So we're going to do what we need to do.
02:45And I hope that Chancellor Mertz changes his policy.
02:49And you know when he'll change his policy?
02:51For sure.
02:52When we win.
02:54You must.
02:55You must.
02:56You must.
02:57You must.
02:58You must.
