00:00The status of dengue infection or spread has reached an alarming status.
00:04Hence, dengue patients have been afforded dedicated or express lanes in hospitals for medical facilities
00:09for prompt diagnosis and treatment.
00:12Our BN Vinnie Manalo has more details in this report.
00:17This photo will refresh the memories of her 15-year-old son Mark Jan who died of leptospirosis.
00:24On August 3, Mark Jan had feverish symptoms and body pain.
00:28They thought it was just the typical flu, but the child's condition got worse.
00:32His chest tightened, had difficulty breathing, and also began vomiting.
00:37They decided to rush him to the hospital.
00:39According to Janet, her son helped clean his friend's house, which was flooded during the recent typhoons.
00:46The child also confessed he sustained a deep scratch from a wire sticking out while cleaning,
00:51which may have been contaminated with bacteria.
00:58Mark Jan, a grade 10 student, had dreams of someday becoming a police officer,
01:24but all of that was dashed because of leptospirosis.
01:28The child even left a wheel to his mother before he died.
01:31He said,
02:01According to the latest reports of the Department of Health,
02:14there have been more than 2,000 cases of leptospirosis reported since June 8,
02:19a week after Pag-asa declared the official arrival of the rainy season.
02:23Due to this, DOH hospitals are on alert nationwide.
02:27Leptospirosis fast lanes have also been opened in some selected DOH hospitals in Metro Manila.
02:34Leptospirosis is a serious infection caused by leptospira bacteria that animals excrete in their urine.
02:40It is usually acquired from water contaminated with rot urine,
02:44but cows, pigs, and dogs can also be carriers of leptospira bacteria.
02:48It attacks internal organs such as the liver, lungs, kidneys, heart, and brain.
02:53Some of its symptoms are red eyes, seizures, difficulty of breath, and severe pain in various parts of the body.
03:01Leptospirosis can evolve and cause death if neglected.
03:04Meron man nararamdaman o wala, basta na palusong, o kahit na padaplis, o kahit na talsikan,
03:09kasi pati yung mata, pati yung ilong, saka bibig,
03:12minsan yung wisik, yung tubig baha, pwede hong makapasok dyan yung ating mikrobyo.
03:18Magpakonsulta na po kahit walang nararamdaman.
03:20Meanwhile, aside from leptospirosis, the DOH is also closely monitoring the possible increase in dengue cases.
03:28Therefore, the department advises the importance of following their campaigns,
03:32such as taob, taktak, tuyo, takip, and alas 4 contra-moskitos to avoid contracting the deadly disease.
