Rob Edwards’ Middlesbrough triumph over Swansea in opening Championship fixture

00:00Middlesbrough were victorious in their opening championship game of the season,

00:04defeating Swansea City by one goal to nil in what was Rob Edwards' first competitive match in charge of the club.

00:11This came thanks to a Dale Fry winning goal.

00:14You saw the reaction at the end. Really pleased. Proud of the effort. Delighted for the supporters.

00:20You know, yeah, really good day.

00:23Must be a lot of good stuff in that first half that you were pleased with going into the half-time break as well.

00:26Yeah, yeah, I know. Yeah, I know. I mean, I thought we showed good moments.

00:30I thought we showed good control at times, but then they were winning the duels.

00:35So when they went a little bit more direct, they were picking up and landing on more second balls,

00:39which made the game a little bit more 50-50.

00:42So talked about that. Talked a little bit around how we can help ourselves when we've got the ball as well.

00:47Thought the boys implemented things really well. Half-time, second half, they didn't have a shot on target.

00:53So, yeah, really good day for us.

00:57But we can play better, we all know that.

01:00But I think everyone will be the same first day of the season.

01:03It's just a great way for us to get off and running.

01:05The goal that won the game came from a set-piece again.

01:08You must be delighted with how rewarding those situations are at the moment.

01:11Yeah, work hard on them. You see how important they are. It's one of three points today.

01:14And Sunderland head coach Regis Lebris is remaining optimistic,

01:19despite the Black Cats being defeated at home by Spanish side Rio Vallecano in their final pre-season friendly.

01:25Yeah, it was the last game of the pre-season.

01:29I think, so far, I liked the whole behaviour of the team, the squad, the players.

01:38Obviously, today it was a bit tougher because I think our opponent today was ready, ready to go for the Liga.

01:45And we had a team with different references, different players, so it wasn't easy to find the right balance.

01:55But until the end, they tried, and I think it was the most important today.
