Transcript
00:00The streets of Glasgow City Centre have transformed into downtown New York this summer
00:04with the filming of Spider-Man 4 Brand New Day. Starting on the 1st of August, stretches of
00:09Bothwell, Blesswood, Wellington, Pitt and St Vincent streets have been decked out with NYPD
00:14vehicles, American flags, buses, food vans and hot dog stands, with specially designed facades
00:20to evoke life in the Big Apple. Star of the film Tom Holland has expressed his eagerness to return
00:26to the franchise in a more grounded, practical production. He said he was obviously over
00:30the moon to be playing Spider-Man again, it's like hanging out with an old pal. He said
00:35they shot the entire film on stages last time, but now they're leaning into that old school
00:39filmmaking shooting in real locations and it feels like a breath of fresh air. The production
00:45team have promised a fresh tone to this film, which will feature Glasgow landmarks. From
00:50Monday the 11th of August, the production bill moved to several roads and locations in the
00:55Merchant City, including Trongate, Wilson Street, Bell Street, Candle Rigs, Hutchison Street,
01:01Brunswick Street, Glassford Street and Ingram Street. Filming so far hasn't been without
01:06its spectacle. Kurds have gathered to witness dramatic scenes including car crashes, controlled
01:11explosions and even a tank roaring through the transformed streets. A stuntman was captured
01:17swinging through the air via cable crane while traffic was diverted from the closed off roads.
01:23Locals and videos from the Glasgow filming have been the subject of international attention,
01:28particularly the renewed focus on practical effects. It's certainly lifted the spirits among
01:33locals and revitalised interest in the superhero, with spectators turning out everyday in Spider-Man
01:39themed dress.
